As suggested in the comments, what is your favorite TV lawyer show and why? What show is the most accurate depiction of the practice of law? Who is your favorite tv lawyer (you can see our opinion on a few from this post from 11 years ago). Which tv lawyer do you despise? Can you even stand to watch shows about the law?
We watch them in my house.
My common comment is" "Yeah. That isn't how it works."
Oh yeah! First…….
Best: Better Caul Saul. Worst: Daredevil
12 Angry Men. Yes, it's about a jury and not the lawyers, but I have taken the liberty to state it.
9:23 again, also the trial of the Chicago 7.
The early years of Law & Order were pretty darned good. My goodness, seems like that show and its progeny have been on forever.
Others that had their moments are The Practice and Better Call Saul.
Jury Duty on Amazon was a fun watch, especially with non-lawyers.
Totally unrelated but damn some people are talented. Steph curry great basketball player plays golf and hits Eagle. Damn!
Lincoln Lawyer blew me away. Tight script, just enough twists and turns to keep me white-knuckled, and just plausible enough to be enjoyable for an old trial jockey. I got a little teary eyed with how they portrayed the trial attorney's loyal, hard working, and dedicated staff. I would love to have Lorna and Cisco work for me! You are only as good as your team.
Better Call Saul is on another level entirely. So many "yes, that's right, that's how it is!" moments.
Boston Legal was a great show that ended too soon, imo.
A Few Good Men was on this weekend and I forgot what an excellent trial lawyer movie this is. The key factual revelations that occurred during trial is so true to life – doesn't matter how much prep you do, the case always comes together (for me) during trial. I remember being an associate and being screamed at for "not knowing" something that came out during trial and being devastated at how stupid I was (of course the screaming partner was a class a jerk who didn't know either) but now I realize that is just how it is. Excellent movie for many reasons
Your comment reminded me of the time when my client, after signing two affidavits swearing to one set of facts, got on the witness stand and testified to the opposite. I was floored. When he got off the stand, I said what the hell? He replied, well I did not want to lie under oath. Okay buddy, but you lied to me for a year and in two sworn affidavits. Thereafter, he stiffed me on the bill. The joys of trial.
Damages with Glenn Close was a great show.
I may be dating myself, but I was a huge fan of LA law. That show would delve into criminal, civil and family law along with the politics of a big firm in a large market.
Perry Mason. Hands down.
Any episode of Scrubs featuring Ted. RIP in peace, king #SamLloyd
Ally McBeal
who could forget Jenny McNeal from the hit Earth television show "Single Female Lawyer?"
Matlock
Ethics Question: you come into possession of texts between a judge and an attorney in which the judges disparages an attorney who is appearing before that judge in an on-going matter. Judge stays on the case and issues a ruling before you come into possession of said text. What do you do?
Lionel Hutz & Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer — 2 of Phil Harriman’s greatest characters
Any show where the bad guy wins because I work ID so I’m evil. But for real, anybody notice the PI attorneys who talk shit don’t have a verdict to their name? I’ve got one attorney who routinely tells me he’s the shit but zero verdicts recorded. Guess he wins in the land of cream puffs. You know who you are, bud.
The lies are as well. Search your standard “best trial lawyer”. Most of them don’t even have recent verdicts. “We trial lawyers bro!” Nah, you do nothing but settle cases. That would be ok if you didn’t pretend.
Oh let’s not forget that 95% of cases settle anyway. But the loser PI attorneys who haven’t ever really won a case for a client chalk up negotiated settlements as wins; I scared that asshole to settle! But you didn’t. You were just a bug that needed to be flicked away.
Maybe it’s just time to take these “best lawyers in the world” down. What say you, ID folks? Do you all suck because you settle a case?
Let’s start with the liar firms. “Best Trial Lawyer” comes to mind.
Let's spin it another way, who would you go to for______?
Suits, Franklin & Bash, The Good Wife, The Good Fight
Suits, Boston Legal, and The Good Fight. TGF is much better than TGW.
