Early Voting Begins

  • Law

It’s finally time to start voting. After a long 10 months of anticipation, early voting opens tomorrow. Regardless of whether you think you should wait until Election Day in the unlikely event of an October surprise, people will start voting tomorrow. Now is your chance to step up and influence the votes of your friends and family. If you feel strongly that certain candidates should or should not be elected, let others know. The most frustrating thing about Nevada’s elected judiciary is that uniformed voters don’t know who to choose and some, instead of leaving it blank, just pick a name. Remember that every vote counts. We’ve covered all of the Eighth Judicial District Court races. If someone asks you who should I vote for or who should be elected to the bench, offer them some resources like Vote411, edjudicateclarkcounty.com, or {shudder} even our unscientific polls and anonymous comments.

If you’re not comfortable suggesting candidates others should vote for, we suggest you consider making a recommendation to others to vote YES on Ballot Question 1 regarding the creation of a court of appeals in Nevada. If you need more information on that, start here.

Finally, remember that your vote doesn’t count if you don’t vote. Make sure you go vote!

The Republicans are making it easier to see through all the political hype and make informed choices. The GOP believes the rich should be richer; voter rights should be suppressed, women should not receive equal pay or make their own health choices. They do not care about inimum wage poverty, or a generation of students burdened with massive debt. Basically, if you are middle class, female, minority, or concerned about the planet – it would be against your own self-interest to vote Republican.

11:30 – oh puh-leez. I'm no fan of republicans, but it's just stupid to make such sweeping generalizations or to conclude that someone will make good choices or be altruistic just because he or she is a democrat.

Party affiliation is a viable means to understand a candidate's core values and beliefs. We are facing two very different visions for our country, it only makes sense to understand which path you want to take. This is not just a trivial political generalization – t's the defining issue of our time.
Republicans still believe the best way to grow the economy is from the top down ie tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate deregulation … The same policies that crashed the economy and crushed the middle class. They want to do away with the EPA, turn Medicare into a voucher program and privatize Social Security. They are afraid of losing power so they've enacted laws to suppress voting rights. They have passed laws to limit a woman's right to choose and voted against equal pay, increasing the minimum wage, and call global warming a hoax. These are verifiable facts.

The Democrats believe in a different path forward. They believe voting is a hard fought for right – and voter suppression is wrong. Dems stand for equal rights, equal pay and Wall Street reform. They believe the needs of the middle class are more important than making corporations, CEO's, and the wealthy richer. They believe in education, infrastructure, and health care for everyone.

Typical nasty hater … but thank you for the inspiration to continue to call a spade a spade – and get the truth out there.

@1:53 PM: Did you copy and paste this useless rant from the Democratic party's website? I don't see anything in your ramblings that would be helpful for anybody here.

Framing the issues might be useful to some who aren't so cynical. Finding out what the republicans are for ( we know what they're against) is not easy.

I realize now this is probably not the forum for a rep vs dem policy debate. My bad.

Thank you, Justice Ellsworth. You are not even a "Justice." Your outlandish attacks on Bill Horne motivated me to early vote for him. Your tv add just provide how honest he is.

I am voting for Trevor Hayes, because he is sexy. He is also a lobbyist, and he is an ardent fan of the Firefly fries.

Besides rejecting the other party's policies, what solutions do republicans offer?
