A diabetes drug trial starts today, giving Robert Eglet a chance to claim the four highest personal injury jury verdict awards in Nevada. (Yes, Will Kemp has a plaintiff too.) Presiding over this trial is Judge Kerry Earley who is up for election this fall against challenger Steve Smith. [RJ]
It always important to hire reliable experts–if only for the reason that they might have to go before a judge at some point… [Las Vegas Sun]
Congrats to Chelsie Campbell, an NV Energy governmental affairs attorney; Karl O. Riley, an associate at Snell & Wilmer; and, David Stoft, an associate at McDonald Carano & Wilson, all of whom made the Las Vegas Business Press’ List of Rising Stars of Business 2014. [RJ]
$500,000 of ads from a national group targeting attorney general candidate Ross Miller start airing today. [RJ]
Surprise! Harry Reid will be helping Lucy Flores raise money in Washington, D.C. [Ralston Reports]
A last minute injunction by a pet store co-owner put a halt to the raffle of the “arson puppies.” [RJ]
Bar continues its efforts to limit the amount of alcohol consumed so its getting more difficult to sling gossip. 1 presentation did not have the required approval for CLE credit. No judicial Q & A for the 2nd year in a row (and why not in this election year). A 1/2 hour plug for a NV Court of Appeals ( the only authorized campaign pitch). No treasurers report from the Family Law Committee (and why not?). Standing room only and reports that 300 people were turned away. But wait! Ely will always by the "chosen" location. Served a box lunch on Friday (as bad as you imagine). The skits from the North poked the problems in the South. Marshals were in plain clothes. But I got my CLE's for the year, even if my butt hurt by early Thursday afternoon.

I wonder how much money Eglet has already contributed to Judge Earley's re-election campaign.
If you're the defendant or the defense attorney, it doesn't really matter. What judge in this state, where judges are elected in expensive contested political campaigns, wouldn't somehow be connected to Eglet, his influence, and his money?
People need to just quit whining. The rules are the rules. Eglet just plays the game better than everyone else. He doesn't do anything unethical or illegal – at least not in this state.
If you want to be Eglet, then donate as much as he does and do what he does. Or if you don't like how Eglet operates, run for office and try to change the rules about how judges end up on the bench. Or join the State Bar BOG. Do something other than bitch about Eglet.
But if you're not willing to do those things, shut up about Eglet and advise your clients how things work.
Me too, about the sarcastic remark. No member of the Bar should stop whining about the Eglet practice. It would be better, granted, if we actually did something about but at a minimum let's never say it is okay.
Details on the Eglet trial?
Sorry about that. Added the link to the RJ.
Anyone got any gossip from the family law conference in Ely?
Yep, everybody fucked everybody and it was gross as you'd expect.

lol, from the "if you don't want to be poor then get a better job" camp. This is nonsense. Justice should never be determined by ability to pay.
I hope you're being sarcastic.
