Pahrump seems like a dumpster fire for the legal community. Guns in the courthouse, DAs firing everyone, judges quitting…insanity.

I am not sure Mr. Fumo's message is a good one at this particular time when progressive prosecutors are being recalled. I agree that sex work should not be at the top of the prosecutor's to-do list, however there is also that sociological phenomenon called the "broken window" theory. I was around when prostitution ran rampant on the Vegas strip and it was messy and nasty. I think coming out of the gate now as a progressive, even in Vegas is a mistake.
That sounds more like tourist who ran out of money. The actual homeless know better. You're more likely to find them in tunnels or other shaded places. It's freaking hot out there, folks.
This trend of taking positions then acting beyond the scope of your authority has gotten out of hand. As the DA, prosecute the laws as they are written. That's it, no more, no less. If you want to change the laws then get (back) into a legislative position. There are enough political mouthpieces out there supporting these positions to be heard far and wide. You'll be far more effective and appreciated if you're good at your job…your designated job.
You can have any view on a DA's responsibility you want but broken windows theory has been discredited. During NY's broken windows era, crime fell less in NY than in the country as a whole. But if you want the courts, the police and DA spending all their money and energy on misdos for solicitation and loitering or whatever, hey, it's your tax money.
Agree with 11:23. The broken windows theory has been discredited. And what does law enforcement have to do with homeless? That's actually addressed in the unfortunately named Defund the Police movement. We need to stop expecting the cops to handle every single issue. We cannot prosecute our way out of addiction, homelessness, mental health, or any other social problem. It is shameful that CCDC is the largest mental health facility in Nevada. We need to divert those funds away from law enforcement and start funding interventions that actually work. Job training, affordable housing, immediate housing, etc are all proven programs that are not sexy and don't make good bumper stickers, but that actually work and deliver results.
I dont GAF. Just get them where I dont have to look at them or worry about them affecting our tourism. SF sucks and I am disappointed that I cant and wont go back there until they fix it.
@11:50a – I feel the same. My wife and I started going to San Francisco about once a year starting around 2009/2010. Our last trip was in 2017 when we couldn't walk around the homeless camping on the sidewalk, and all of the poop and needles on the streets in the tourist sector. Haven't gone back since.
I predicted Vegas becoming the next San Fran the other day if Fumo is elected. Glad to see him proving me right. His statement reeks of desperation for votes.
Ozzie Fumo is a desperate man. His chances of winning are low.

I wonder if David Boies can actually collect $1,950 an hour. If someone asked my firm what my rate is, the firm would say it's $900. But I don't think anyone has ever paid that much ever. It's expected that the prospective client would negotiate my rate down far below that amount.
Very possible he does. I have been local counsel for several very large firms out of LA and they bill that amount more or less and the client pays it. I saw one set of bills that had their paralegals billing out at $450. Big law is no joke when it comes to billing.

RIP to the Metro detective. Some defense attorney is going to have their work cut out for them with this case. A big truck hit the sacrificial beam causing it to crash down on the car. talk about unintended consequences.
People complain about Dorsey, but can anyone point to specific examples. She has always given fair or plaintiff friendly rulings (which is usually the fair ruling) in my experience

Anyone that drives downtown can see that we are headed for a SF grade homeless problem. Sleeping ON sidewalk of actual LV Blvd mid morning.

yep, ozzie is really proving your hypothetical counterfactual right, even months before it doesn't happen!
TWACK!

If insurance counsel is in front of Dorsey, they will do well.

Yes many.
