Do we have a case number for the Gomez federal lawsuit? Who were the trial attorneys?

His son announced it yesterday. Some kind of fast-moving cancer. Diagnosed just a couple of weeks earlier apparently. A real tragedy for his family as well as the legal community.

Rest In Peace. Met him in 1996. What a genuinely nice guy. Only guy I ever knew who would send a hardbound settlement proposal.

You know how this blog will announce a death of an attorney and no one says anything? Then there is Bill Terry, Steve Stein or Bob Sidell. Just good people.

I’m probably in the minority on this blog but I love Waymos. They can’t be worse than the average Las Vegas driver.

You must not be a PI guy. Don’t you know that bad drivers are an essential component of justice?

Peterson literally sits on the bench reading case law and opinions word for word for word. Can she not just rule, cite a case or two, and move on? I was in her courtroom for over an hour while she literally read opinions word for word. Unbelievable.

Lame take. We all know there are judges who will sign randomly submitted proposed orders, or just stamp the analysis of their 3L law clerk. Judge Peterson works harder than most of our judges to get it right. She reads ALL the briefs and the exhibits. She is one of our most prepared judges. I had a case a couple of weeks ago where opposing counsel made oral argument that contradicted their correspondence, which was attached as one of many exhibits in the case. She had read them all, was all over it and called out the bullshit. Most judges wouldn’t have been on the ball like that. If I personally had a bunch of money on the line, she is the judge I would want.

Who are the judges signing anything in front of them and who are the ones rubber stamping their law clerks’ work?

Important to note the distinction between working hard to get it right and actually getting it right though.

Very few will get your reference. But yes, it is torture to sit through any set of hearings with Judge Landis as the Judge. Even librarians and accountants would hear him speak for 20 minutes and would find watching paint dry to be a contact sport and worthy of it own blog.
