I've lived in five different major metropolitan regions in the US (including Las Vegas). Las Vegas has, on average, the least-skilled and least-credentialed medical doctors I've experienced. Aside from having been a patient of some of the local quacks, I've also had to interact with many of them in my work life. It seems we in Vegas are getting some of the poorest healthcare from some of the biggest idiots in the medical field. Why is it that such a high number of awful doctors gravitate toward Las Vegas?
My conspiracy-like theory: Because doctors are soooo in demand due to the artificial supply restrictions created by the AMA, they can pretty much go anywhere in the country (hell, the world), and practice their trade and live comfortably.
If you could live anywhere in the country and live (at minimum) a solid middle-class lifestyle, would you pick Las Vegas. I mean, of course this is home for some people, but by no means most. The rest are here because the bar is set so low. I mean, schools are garbage, the weather is far from ideal, there are few, but growing, opportunities for culture.
Also, in defense of doctors, there are some good ones. And a lot of the "bad" is because they are squeezed by insurance companies to spend as little time as possible with patients. I've had experience with both a good surgeon and a good OB. Haven't found a GP worth a shit, though.
@February 20, 2014 at 11:47 AM, thank you for clear, concise and correct diagnosis of the problem. May I just add that some doctors are not looking for the "solid middle-class lifestyle," but more of a "party party party" lifestyle, and Vegas is a good place to indulge such proclivities.
I had a good OB in town too. But once he found out I was a dude, he was like, "I can't treat you anymore" in a weird Apu voice. What's up with that?
12:38 = best post of February!
"weird Apu voice" – Isn't that most Las Vegas doctors?
What are some opinions about Jerry Tao? I have not been in front of him.
I like him. He reads everything, is reasonably smart, and doesn't seem pro-plaintiff or pro-defense. He's not a superstar, but he's a good to very good judge in my opinion.
The thing that sticks out the most for me about Judge Tao was when I was in his courtroom waiting for my hearing, when he told an attorney that he could not assert his federal claims in state court. That claims based upon federal law had to be asserted in federal court. I guess he forgot that whole "court of general jurisdiction" thing from law school.
Without context, it is impossible to determine whether that statement is correct or incorrect. While there is a presumption of concurrent jurisdiction, some federal statutes explicitly state that only a federal court may hear claims arising thereunder, and in certain other areas of federal law there is an implied exclusivity. Thus, simply because a state court is a court of general jurisdiction does not necessarily mean you can bring all claims based on violation of federal law in state court.
I don't know…I still think it's the judge's fault when he refuses to concurrently handle my client's bankruptcy matter. Lazy incompetent bastard.
Yeah, just like when federal judges refuse to hear my client's divorce and custody issues.
This wasn't a case where the statute explicitly stated that only a federal court could hear the claim. I don't remember the specifics, but it stuck out in my mind as a pretty incompetent decision.
Actually, I like to sit in court and overhear cases about which I have no context and then later comment on blogs about the judge's lack of comprehension of the law even though I really have no clue what the case was about or if the judge was right or wrong. It makes me feel better though.
Or come to the same blog and comment about those comments. That's even better.
Or comment about someone's comments commenting on a comment.

I heard a rumor that Brady Vorwerck Ryder & Caspino is closing its doors at 5:00 pm today. Anyone else hear about it or the details? I knew one attorney over there but he/she left a few months ago and had no idea of the closing at the time.
It's Friday, and BVRC is in a sketchy neighborhood, so the employees want to leave before it gets too dark. So they close at 5.
I heard the same from one of their clients.
{sarcastic font} I always close my doors before 5 on a Friday. {/sarcastic font}
I'm assuming Brady Vorwerck Ryder & Caspino is a law firm? It will be sad to see them no long such an integral part of our legal community.
Yes, they have closed their doors permanently…they shut their doors, left their employees without a job and abandoned all their office space.
The reason they closed is juicy
So what is the "juicy reason" they shut down so fast and left everyone high and dry?
Let's start some speculation on this. Was one of the partners caught banging the wife of one of the other partners?
Let it all out. Think of this blog as a nest in a tree of trust and understanding.
The biggest reason is that the firm's former controller, Jed Bolding, embezzled over $1.5 million, and didn't pay vendors and experts. There are other factors, such as a failed merger, and 3 out of the 4 named partners bailed on Brady. They really did a number on their staff, not paying vacation time owed.
That's right. I was an emploee there and gave all of us one day notice and no vacation paid. We were told it would come in the mail but nothing yet after over a month and i doubt it will come. It felt like a ghost town abandoned!
I just heard there was a state bar probe in California into the the firm and its partners client's trust accounting irregularities.
Well, looks like 2 of the partners and 7 of the attorneys went to Wolfe & Wyman. Godspeed, folks.
Too bad they don't have pictures of the candidates on the ballots, Denise would certainly win.
Just got our form to file a "notice of claim" for Brady Vorwerck Ryder. Not sure why they have my name, or what claim I might have
bankruptcy?
