The war over confirming federal judges is heating up. [KNPR]
A Nevada assembly candidate is accused of forging documents in a family court case. [RJ]
Damian Sheets, who is representing the alleged driver in last week’s double fatality DUI, says his client wasn’t behind the wheel at the time of the crash. [RJ]
The NPR article is interesting; but didn't we already know? The federal trial and appellate courts have been influenced far more by W and now Trump than by Clinton and Obama. Whether that is a good thing or not is not the point. But expect the federal circuits to do a lot of "rolling back" during the next 20 or so years. Expect more summary judgments in 14th Amendment cases to be upheld. Expect more insurance companies to win in coverage disputes with their policyholders. Expect more criminal convictions to be affirmed. Expect more employers to win discrimination cases. Expect more Rule 12(b) motions to be granted. Expect more environmental cases to be decided in favor of business.
As far as the USSC, by fending off the Garland appointment, conservatives really dodged a bullet. Garland for Scalia would have been a significant leftward shift for the Court. The Republicans held serve with Gorsuch. Whether right or wrong, McConnell and Grassley did their jobs for their side.
And if Trump somehow gets another appointment (to replace RBG or Breyer), we can expect major changes in the direction of federal law – both substantive and procedural. It would create the most conservative Court since before the New Deal.

Here's one – public access to the clerk of the courts. How can a member of the public successfully reach an actual employee of the clerk's office using the phone? The link on the 8th Judicial District Court's page is to the family court clerk's office. The number that is given for the district court clerk's office on Google takes you to a phone menu that literally never gives you an option or ability to sepak to someone. I think this is outrageous and must be fixed immediately.
It's like attempting to call someone at your local branch of Bank of America. If you eventually get through to a live person, that person's accent will be very thick and very exotic.
Has anyone seen the Elana Hatch ad for Justice of the Peace slamming James Leavitt. A humdinger. I happened to catch while watching the news lunchtime. Really dirty politics how they dredged up a 20 year old traffic case against Leavitt in another state.
Link to the ad? I did see an ad on her Facebook page which was clearly filmed at the "Eglet Justice Center" or whatever they are calling it, which immediately calls into question potential bias for the Plaintiff's bar.
Elana is a cool lady but I don't know about this ad. Either she's saying Leavitt never prosecuted a felony trial case (duh right he's defense counsel) or that he's never tried a felony trial case (that seems patently false) so what gives…
8:38 and the Dave Thomas trolls, I am going to blow your mind. Eglet endorsed Leavitt. Now what do you do? Vote for who Eglet endorsed or who has Dave Thomas running their campaign?

Whew! One can hope so.

Silly 11:45, court access is not for the unwashed masses!

I could have so much fun with this, but I won't.
Yaaaaay!!!! They put the captcha back on the district court website – assholes!
Sounds like you need to sign in to the Attorney Portal. No captcha.

Correction Elana Graham ad for the Justice of the Peace against James Leavitt.
The Grahams raised their daughter right. They should be proud of that commercial, especially the sob term. Classy

It was on network tv, don't have the link. It discusses the Dui

Dave Thomas trolls. Thank you for the laugh, Eglet. It is called voting for Ginn. I did, as well as for Bob Langford for DA.
