Who is giving CCSD the kind of advice that leads them to believe they can "un-fire" someone? Did they never attend school, and learn of the classic legal doctrine of "no take-backs"?

Just look at the composition of that school board – it's basically The Real Housewives of Southern Nevada… Every single one should be replaced with someone at least somewhat competent in education policy or finance; however, because those people are busy working real jobs, we have high school graduates and QAnon followers directing the 5th largest school district in the nation.

Did all of them graduate from a Las Vegas HS?
… just wondering, 'cause it is evidence of the quality of a CCSD education.

Just like the last judicial election – the school board is a hot mess and a perfect example of the Las Vegas electorate. It's not that good people don't run because they do. It's that Vegas voters would rather vote for a hot chick who looks good on a sign than a long time teacher who has actual education, training, and experience in schools and education.

History informs us deregulation, decentralization, and giving consumers choice works like a charm to increase standards while lowering cost over the long run.

Vouchers and abolish the Department of Education.

The 2018 election where voters elected the self-proclaimed "hot mom" with no education to the Board rather than Kali Fox Miller — an attorney (with experience working with bureaucracy as a former DAG) — is the epitome of the why CCSD is what it is.

In larger metropolitan areas, the hard truth is that, far more often than not, the school board is not truly an independent, autonomous body, but is instead aligned almost completely with the teacher's unions.

And the elections, for school board,(as already pointed out by some posters) is a cult of personality and/or beauty contest, or simply who has the most money and therefore can build the highest name-recognition. It is all those things as opposed to what it should be– which is a meaningful discussion and examination of issues affecting the education system.

Teachers Unions are openly hostile to education, children, and parents. Really ugly.

3:34 way to hijack a discussion to pursue your viewpoint, evidence be damned. This is about CCSD not CCEA. And 12:44 I'm guessing you are talking about Danielle Ford. Pretty sure she ran on a platform of "I'm a hairdresser and I'm a mom" and she won. Blows my mind. While she clearly runs a small business, how does the relate to running the fifth largest education district in the nation? Personally I feel that her win is illustrative of how the electorate educates themselves on candidates for office. Did she even graduate from high school or college? I don't know because her blurb on the trustees' website sure doesn't tell us.

I remember when CCSD Board of Trustees was at least semi-respectable. This clown show presently is just beyond belief. @12:44 is talking about Danielle Ford but could also equally refer to the 2020 election of Katie Williams.

The problem isn't Katie Williams or Danielle Ford, it's that they are an accurate reflection of the electorate here, with some notable distortions. One of the unfortunate things about how nasty politics is is that it discourages capable people with the capacity for self awareness and shame from running. That's how you end up with Katie Williams, Michele Fiore, etc. These people are bold, brash and incapable of feeling shame over ethical or intellectual lapses in the way that you and I might be. So if Katie Williams resigned tomorrow, another will pop up in her place. There are countless people like her. It is terrifying that she is in charge of our schools. This is another reason why responsible parents place their kids in private or charter schools.

6:58 PM, here. I want to clarify that Danielle Ford and Katie Williams are not equal. My comment may imply otherwise, which is not fair to Ford. From what little I have watched, Danielle Ford cares and tries. Katie Williams is just a toxic anti-intellectual Trumper.

@6:58 I agree with you except for the charter schools. Vegas parents need to fight back and get involved. We should not allow these lunatics to control our schools. The vast majority of children in this county go to public schools. When their education suffers, our future suffers.

@7:08,

The main reason our schools suck is because most parents here don't care even a little bit. That can't be fixed. The only real solution is to pull your own kids out of CCSD.

Sincerely,

6:58 PM.

11:04 is an arrogant prick. How dare someone with only a high school degree seek an elected position. And I don't know where your Qanon conspiracy comes from given the trustees are mostly Democrats.

@9:49- perhaps the fact that Katie Williams has tweeted "#WWG1WGA", a hashtag KNOWN to be associated with the Qanon conspiracy theorists… maybe do a little research and look at her twitter for about 2 minutes before calling others ignorant pricks. And to your first point, it is not the craziest idea that the people leading the school district should have actually graduated from school. I looked it up – Danielle Ford, didn't even graduate high school. What is she doing up there? She may be trying hard and giving her best effort (which I sometimes doubt), but her running for that position took the job away from a much more qualified candidate.

8:06, there's one nutjob. The rest are Democrats. Seems like a Democrat problem with the school board. I don't know whether Ford graduated high school or not, but you sure aren't making a good showing of yourself, as I presume your arrogant a@# has a HS diploma.

If I had a nickel for every time I read about Randazza winning an anti-slapp case, I'd probably have several nickels.

The Jara demand letter is actually kind of funny. $600K because Fuck You, Pay Me and $2M because the trustees were stone cold unprofessional incompetents in the way they handled things.

I hope Bailey can pull off a good John Malkovitch inpersonation:

"Pay-ee heem. Pay zat man heez monee."

I have not had the privilege of litigating against John in a long time, but I can still safely place my bet on his winning this, one way or the other. If I took a big ticket job with any of local governmental units, he'd be first on my list of attorneys to retain early and keep him on board all throughout.
