Why put in just to have Lombardo blow you out of the sky like a clay pigeon for a hand-picked DA?

You realize Lombardo has appointed civil attorneys right the bench, right? I mean, they’re all big Rs but still.

I’m very left but I don’t get the Reynolds hate. I worked with him in private practice. He’s a good person and a good judge.

You must not be involved in state politics then. Ask the legislators if he was fair and impartial when he tried to recall women dems to subvert majority control.

What the heck? Anyone know why Judge Bluth is resigning? Or why its not even a news story?

Is it ever a news story when judges resign? She’s going to make a lot more money at ARM doing half the work.

I mean this earnestly. I cannot see her having a large stable of people that will select her as a mediator in civil matters. Not that she was not above average as a judge, but she does not have a bevy of civil contacts were I would see her getting selected.

It ought to be a story. And I would be shocked to see anyone pay her to be a mediator. We tell our clients to pay private mediators to avoid bluth, Holthus, or other settlement judges with no civil insight or experience.

It seems newsworthy regardless of circumstances because it opens a judicial vacancy.

It also seems newsworthy that a relatively young judge would resign after filing for reelection and not drawing a challenger.

I’m all for respecting some level of privacy but she also chose to be a public figure when she applied to be a judge. The public is owed at least some minimal explanation.

I think the deadline is self-evident: Christmas, aka December 25. I’d be willing to extend that deadline to Orthodox Christmas upon a motion demonstrating good cause.

Probate Commissioner Fontano explains to one person that he can’t just interrupt to ask for random advice about a random case. Then, maybe 2 minutes later, an attorney interrupts, announces a case and page number as if he can call the case and starts to talk about it even though it was called and continued during the reading of the approved list. Fontano becomes impatient, explains this. “Your Honor, can I ask just one question?” “NO!” Fontano explains that this isn’t open mic night at the Comedy Cellar, that he has a calendar to follow and to not just interrupt. Attorney, without irony or self awareness, interrupts Fontano to apologize while Fontano is still speaking. Then, and I shit you not, 15 seconds later, some random pro se says, “Your Honor I have a question.” You cannot make this stuff up.

Seriously, it’s time to get rid of Zoom. It’s like this every week.

Contempt of Court. The Clark County Law Library could always use some “donations.” Unless the judicial officer has invited you to speak… you don’t get to speak.

Also, this happened pre-Zoom as well. Yamashita was patient as hell, but there were some Pro Se that just Would. Not. Stop. Talking.

Once Yamashita had had enough of a mouthy pro se, it became quite entertaining. He had no problem having the Marshall show them the door. Contempt of court is a lot of due process work, which is why it doesn’t happen.

And often the pro pers don’t know how to work Zoom so their face is on the screen, with their mic on, throughout the entire court session.

Whoever those lawyers were, they underbilled. A municipal power-plant dispute that topples a commission is four discrete matters, each independently billable, and the practitioner who settled it into resignations instead of eighteen months of injunctive motion practice left serious money on the table. In forty years I have never resolved a fight that quickly, because a fight resolved quickly is a fight no one was paid to lose. The County-side fee burn here, properly handled, is the whole point.

If you’re not billing at least 42 hours per day, you are unworthy of being considered for elevation to AV rated.
