Vegas teen (who is the son of an attorney), represented by Ross Goodman, allegedly raped a girl while others laughed and filmed her crying to stop. [NY Post; RJ]
How many lawyers can you find on this list of top residential water users? [KTNV]
@2:13 Gypsum's bankruptcy creditors would be stupid to fund another fruitless litigation in state court. There is no case. I'm sure they've already paid Bice over a million in fees for the federal case. But if he can convince them otherwise, more power to him. God knows our state courts get shit wrong half the time. Maybe it's worth the gamble.

Speaking of water wasting – how was Gypsum going to get water up there? I can't imagine there are enough wells up there and they'd have to hook up to a municipal water source or something.
Oakland is broke and cant afford it. Period. They are not smarter than everyone else . . . they did not have a choice.
Also, there is rampant speculation that with this new stadium deal and move to Las Vegas, the teams value will be greatly enhanced for a prospective sale.
I believe the county's projections are wildly optimistic. How will a last place team draw sufficient attendance? It would be interesting to see the county's assumptions.
Generally, agree with 12:16. If this is part of an owner's plan to turning a lump of coal into a diamond (or a more vulgar expression, pile of ****) by using LV money, it's another reason why public funds should not be spent to "enhance" a private sports franchise.
Although I hate the idea of using public funds for this private enterprise, I suspect that there will be a lot of visitors to our city who would love to see their favorite teams kick the ass of the Las Vegas Athletics. Especially teams that are not themselves well-ranked, but which are not as pathetic as the As. Maybe there is an audience!
The current average attendance of 8,900 people at A's home games suggests people are not that interested in traveling to watch their team dominate a minor league team. The projected attendance figures the A's put together to present to the Legislature are tantamount to fraud.
3:12 has it right. Come to Vegas to sit in the summer sun? Not.
Maybe, repeat, maybe, take in a night game – but that would take revenue away from the strip shows.
The A's can't base everything on visitors. They will need a local fan base, but who is going to pay $50 to park 10 blocks away? Baseball is not football. Baseball has a long schedule and depends on fans showing up frequently, which in turn depends on reasonably priced tickets and parking.
To expand on how baseball will not draw like football. The A's are an AL team, so other than the few interleague games you are only getting half the potential fans, with a few NL games here and there, to draw from. Look at the days and times.
Then just do the math on the current home schedule and you don't see a lot of great national teams on the schedule much.
Then look at the Raiders home schedule and when the games were.
It will take about 3750 years to get that money value back if my math is right.
To build off 7:39's point, the biggest out of town draw will be the NL Dodgers, who will only play here three times every other year. That's 3 games out of 162 home games over two seasons. If we get an NL team, the Dodgers will play here 13 times over two years.
I'm not an A's fan, and don't think they should come here. But at least for 2023, MLB went into a Battle Royale format. Everyone will play everyone at some point in the season.
You play the other league 3 games each (in only one city), the other teams in your league but not your division 7 times (3 in one city, 4 in the other) and the teams in your division 13 times. It's still heavily, heavily weighted by league and division. Only half the NL teams will play here in any given year, and even then, it will only be three games. So you'll get the Dodgers Diamondbacks and Padres 3 times each out of 162 games (two seasons). These would be the biggest draws for visiting fans.
Even if the wait if 5-10 more years to go for an expansion team, it is an exponentially better proposition than getting stuck with this ownership group for the next thirty years.

This 17 year old kid is a spoiled punk! Charge him as an adult. Throw the book at him.
Read all of it and almost threw up my breakfast. The rapist, and his mother, came across as very entitled. I hope there's the will in the DA's office to get justice for the victim.
Entitled little punk. Probably had everything handed to him. When I looked up mom on Odyssey I found but one case from around seven or eight years ago. She's listed as "of counsel" at a sort of medium sized (for here) firm that I've never heard of.
Good parents are involved and paying attention to their kids every move and correcting as they go. Never perfect of course, but this kid (from his social media) has been headed this way for a long time. No surprises here.
I would be interested to know the reason for his "year and a half of online school". Was he kicked out for behavioral or other problems?
Mom's Twitter account calls her Mommy, Wifey, Entrepreneur, Boss and Vegas Girl. She talks about walking barefoot on the strip. My thoughts go out to that poor victim.
I will tell you that while the kid DOES appear to be a giant douchebag, the media has not accurately reflected what is on the video. Wait until the DA actually goes through the case before rushing to judgement. The case is definitely worth something from a prosecution perspective, but it is nowhere near as strong as the media purports.
@Ben Nadig. Please enlighten me (serious, I don't do crim law). In what universe is someone who has sex with a minor who is drunk out of her skull (ie cannot consent) NOT definitely a douchebag but also definitely a rapist? Take away the video entirely. This kid is DEFINITELY a douchebag and DEFINITELY a rapist in the eyes of the vast majority of parents you will find on your jury (I would hope).

Off topic but I want to vent. It’s unacceptable that for decades now we’ve had family law judges who are known for hating women. The divorce and custody statutes give family court judges so much discretion. We have a sitting judge and a senior judge who are known amongst family law practitioners for despising women and using their discretion to screw them. This place truly is a judicial hell hole.
Yes Throne is known to be pro-father (rather than hating women) which others view as trying to even the playing field. There have been numerous judges over the years that were known to be pro-mom.
I try not to name nameS because aPparently that means comments get DeleTed. Being pro father to “even the playing field” is not acceptable any more than being “pro mom” is. Each case is supposed to be decided on its merits. Having a decades long reputation for preference based on gender is not ok. Read Rivero…it’s right there in black and white. It’s been this way for too long. Family court needs a serious house cleaning and it’s long past time for the COA and the Supreme Court to take a more discerning eye towards allegations of abuse of discretion.
10:46…. You misunderstood or perhaps I misspoke. The perception that Throne is "pro-dad" is viewed by many that she is not actually "pro-dad" but just that she works hard to make sure that the playing field is even and that every case is considered on its merits between the parents (i.e. the presumption in favor of Mom is being erased). Those that are used to (and have made money off of) the pro-mom presumption take the more balanced view as being unfairly "pro-dad".
By many do you mean her and her former law partner? Sorry but I have yet to meet a single colleague who says she’s balanced. Some of the most strait laced family law attorneys I know have noted her behavior towards women.
But what about his texts? lol.
Has Bice lost his fastball? People are asking.
No one is asking.
So Bice went after a fellow attorney over texts that were meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Awesome.
It isn't the crime that nails ya. It's the cover up.
The text messages are highly relevant to the state court claims. Jones is not in the clear in the slightest.

I support any ruling that allows more housing to be built, preferably homes that will be owned by residents not mega REITS. Power to the people.

No public money for the A's!
Just stop.
Based.
As a going concern, the A's are a D minus. Oakland knows this and passed on financing a loser. Better to seek a new franchise.
Oakland is broke and cant afford it. Period. They are not smarter than everyone else . . . they did not have a choice.

Who is going to fly to Vegas in the dead of summer to watch a Tuesday game? Nobody.
The current average attendance of 8,900 people at A's home games suggests people are not that interested in traveling to watch their team dominate a minor league team. The projected attendance figures the A's put together to present to the Legislature are tantamount to fraud.
Traveling to Oakland to watch your team is a far cry from traveling to Vegas for the same thing.
3:12 has it right. Come to Vegas to sit in the summer sun? Not.

Vegas should lobby for an NL expansion team.

That POS deserves the death penalty
Living in the foothills above Gorman HS in a $2mm house. Party bus.
His social media is rife with pics of him drinking alcohol and obviously intoxicated. Kid needed an ass whooping or two when he was younger.
Entitled little punk. Probably had everything handed to him. When I looked up mom on Odyssey I found but one case from around seven or eight years ago. She's listed as "of counsel" at a sort of medium sized (for here) firm that I've never heard of.
Let's withhold judgment on the parents. Even children of exceptional parents go on to do horrible things.
They mostly seem to handle the insurance company dec relief fallout from CD cases, which is about as interesting as watching paint dry.
Bullshit. I am calling Bullshit.
Good parents are involved and paying attention to their kids every move and correcting as they go. Never perfect of course, but this kid (from his social media) has been headed this way for a long time. No surprises here.

Little judgmental y'all – not sure it is ALL the parent's fault
It may not be.
But failure to supervise and actively parent is more likely a factor. Try Logic for a change.
Mom's Twitter account calls her Mommy, Wifey, Entrepreneur, Boss and Vegas Girl. She talks about walking barefoot on the strip. My thoughts go out to that poor victim.
I was curious if that was her. But, it definitely is. They own a local construction entity.
Maybe I am old school, but the girl is equally responsible, no? I met my wife under very similar circumstances.
No. Drinking underage does not mean consent to sex. No means no regardless of the circumstances.
Dude. She was crying and saying no. That's way more than this jackass needed to know that what he was doing was wrong. This isn't on her.
@5:30 Bro, that's a bad take. Real bad. I'm hoping that was a sad attempt at sarcasm and that you're not really serious.
@530 has never watched a single episode of SVU.
I will tell you that while the kid DOES appear to be a giant douchebag, the media has not accurately reflected what is on the video.
