John L. Smith's article about Hafter today about sums it up:
Judicial candidate Jacob Hafter delivered a truly low blow recently when he accused veteran District Judge Valorie Vega of racism and anti-Semitism.
As the Review-Journal reported Thursday, Hafter’s malodorous froth came via Facebook after Vega declined to reschedule a court proceeding around a Jewish holiday.
Hafter, an Orthodox Jew, didn’t blame himself for not informing the court months ago of a possible scheduling conflict. Someone should buy the guy a calendar.
Vega, who is retiring at the end of her term, is married to longtime Review-Journal reporter Howard Stutz, who is Jewish and a friend of 30 years.
Hafter is running for a seat on the District Court bench. It’s hard to imagine a reasonable person voting for him.
But here’s a campaign slogan you don’t often see: “Vote Hafter: Judgment so suspect, even his mother doesn’t endorse him.”
It’s true. She doesn’t. In fact, she calls him “delusional.”
Does anyone else worry, as I do, that the more press Hafter gets the more recognizable his name becomes, causing the ever-so-informed Clark County electorate to vote for him? In other words, are we all unwitting participants in the Halverson Effect yet again?

Yeah, it's a good question. You do want the public to know that Hafter is not all bow ties and cuddles, but I am not sure where the line is between hurting/helping his campaign.
It's almost a litmus test – the press is so bad for a judicial candidate if he does well it will be a testament to the problems with this process.

It's hurting him for sure. It is crippling any ability he has of getting major endorsements, which means Johnson will be getting votes from all the voters who follow the recommendation of those issuing the endorsement (basically a block vote). Even if that block vote is only 15% of the voters, which it is likely more, Hafter would have to get 59% of the rest of the vote to win. That's a tall order.
Right. I would imagine that in what will probably be a very low turnout election you would have far fewer of the low-information voters that 1:08 is talking about. Most likely the people who are voting are voting based on the endorsements of their local rotary club (or whatever) which will not include Hafter.

I'm pretty stunned that Mark James got one of the pot permits in light of pretty serious allegations against him – http://www.reviewjournal.com/jane-ann-morrison/case-closed-claims-ex-legislators-sex-drug-addictions. Anyone have a count on how many of Jay Brown's clients received permits?
