Request for referrals: I am a solo civil litigator that has a case that just keeps getting bigger and more complex. It's now gotten to the point that I don't feel like I can do my client justice. I would love to find a mid-sized firm who can hold my client's hand, and dedicate the resources needed to bring it home. It's a commercial dispute involving breach of K and torts.
Anyone have any thoughts on who I could talk to?
Candidly you are your client's chosen counsel so talk to a mid-sized firm with whom you have a relationship and can work because your client is looking to you to shepherd this case.
OP here. I'd be willing to do that if appropriate. The bigger issue is that the client needs more resources than I can offer.
Jeff Sylvester. Solid long time litigator, good dude.
Hutchison & Steffen.
Although I don't have a reference for you, I do have some advice. Carefully document the transfer because if it goes bad, the NSB having a history of only prosecuting small/SOLO firms, they will most likely backtrack to you. You want the transfer documentation to be rock solid. Also, if the mid-sized firm even glances your way, the NSB will assume you were at fault. Don't believe me? Go online and look at the Bar Counsel Reports in the magazine. They are 99% small/SOLO. Thank goodness I moved into a niche working for a private company. But my experience before that was as stated above.
Ozzie Fumo, being quite outspoken and unflinchingly canid about his opinions, made his 2020 Supreme Court race(against Herndon) interesting and somewhat entertaining, and the same can be said for his 2022 race against D.A. Wolfson.
Problem is that in the last race, and now even more so with this current race, he is against candidates with such a dramatic fund-raising advantage that it is hard for Ozzie's voice to be heard.
However, because he will often make the most controversial and attention-grabbing statements and accusations against opponents, he has proven himself fairly adept at attracting free media coverage, which can at least close the gap a little between the advantages of his opponent's huge war chest and Ozzie's much more limited budget.
That said, his comments run the gamut. Some of his statements, such as specific allegations that he believes certain people received preferential treatment from the D.A.'s office, are intriguing and quite possibly worthy of real examination and discussion.
But, on the other hand, some of his statements are of the ho hum "who cares' variety. For example, so what if Wolfson no longer goes to court to prosecute specific cases. Presumably, the media, as well as most voters, know that in a district of our size that the County D.A. is primarily an administrative/political position, and that the office has scores of attorneys to handle the actual cases.
But, bottom line is even though he is impressive at attracting free coverage, he's going to need to attract an awful lot of it to have a chance against Wolfson's machine.
Time will tell.
Love Ozzie, but his campaign tactics are unfortunate. Oz, if you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Please don't be calling NSC justices white supremacists.
Censorship on the blog strikes again. #sad
9:37 here…I agree. The censorship is starting to suck. Yesterday's conversation re veterans was highly amusing and I'm very disappointed that we did not get to continue it.
I will chime in that I did not see anything worthy of taking it down from an offensive vein. However it had very little to do with the Las Vegas Legal Community (and I participated in that thread).
