Following up on recent posts about Lawyers Out of Love and Lawyers Looking for Love, we thought we would bring up a related topic: sex. Lawyers are people just like anyone else. But unlike other people and professions, we are the ones that have to have a specific rule about when a lawyer can have sexual relations–at least when it’s with a client. (Look at Rule of Professional Conduct 1.8(j) for those of you who need a refresher.) And we have all seen the stories over the years, both on this blog and in national headlines, about lawyers who can’t resist the urge. So, in light of that and those recent posts about divorce and dating, what advice, tips, stories do you have about lawyers and sex? We often talk about mental health on here, but what about sexual health? Have you been tested for STDs/STIs? Why or why not? Have you ever had to actually worry about Rule 1.8(j) in your practice? What do you think about brothels? Have you ever had a work lunch meeting at a strip club? Should sex work be legalized in Vegas? Is sex in the office really that hot? (Feel free to speak your mind, just remember to keep the comments as work appropriate as possible.)

Clip from Spinal Tap saying, "What's wrong with being sexy?"
The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled in favor of state Senate Republicans in a 2019 dispute over extended payroll taxes and DMV fees, setting clear limits on legislative efforts to avoid the constitutional two-thirds majority requirement for tax increases while also blowing a substantial hole in the state budget.

Kevin Powers, the attorney that wrote the opinion that the Democrats based their decision on, made $121k in overtime for the 2019 session. Total pay of $271K, and cost Nevada almost $100 million and the state is responsible for attorney's fees.
Not sure this guy deserves to keep his job.
@10:22am. Firing the guy just because his argument didn't prevail seems overly harsh, IMO. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don’t. But its not like the court found his arguments to be frivolous or made in bad faith. I also dont think anyone can say he "cost" the state any money (beyond his salary). Yes, they will have to pay the money back, but they aren’t really losing anything they had a right to collect in the first place. And, the Supreme Court, according to the article, ruled the state is NOT responsible for the plaintiffs' attorney fees.
This is 10:52am and I have to take back my last sentence after reading the actual opinion. The Sup Ct. ruled the individual defendants were not liable for atty fees, but apparently the issue of whether the state agencies will have to pay fees is still open at the dist ct level.
Is there a cap on how much overtime a state employee can receive? Why would a LCB attorney receive overtime? I was a deputy DA and I never received overtime. I worked every weekend.
The current rule is you can continue to have sex with your client so long as you were having sex with him/her before he/she became your client.
Does that mean the client MUST continue to have sex with you as part of the Fee Agreement? Asking for a friend
Sex with a pretty court reporter after a depo is the hottest. Happened a few times back when I was single and in my 20's and 30's. Not so much now that I'm married and in my 50's. Sigh.
Also, seemed like there was a higher percentage of gorgeous court reporters 20 years ago. And they were flirtier
They might say the same thing about male lawyers.
10:16 and 10:40–Stop! You're both right.
There are still some very attractive court reporters.
After my divorce from a cheating spouse, I had a new partner ask when I had last been tested. Never. I had never had to worry about it. I got tested and got the all clear, thankfully. But STDs are not the end of the world. Yes they suck and it depends on which one, but for most part you can deal with it. Just be smart kids. Condoms don't protect against everything. Get yourself checked and if you've got something–tell your partner before you f*ck them over. F*cking lawyers.
For someone who has never gotten an STD check before, anywhere you guys recommend? Just walk into UMC/urgen care and ask for one?
STDcheck.com you don't even have to see a doctor, you just pay and order the tests you want. Then you go to a lab, pee in a cup, get some blood taken, and you get your results in a day or so. Pretty painless process and you don't have to see anyone other than lab techs. There are also other options like you said, but this is super easy.
Thanks my dude, I appreciate it!
Before I got married, I wanted a full STD test. I went to Quest Diagnostics. I bought a burner cell phone, opened an email account using a fake name, provided that same fake name to Quest. Used the burner phone and my short-lived email account to get my results — clean. Simple and easy.
I probably didn't need to buy a burner phone or open a fake email account, but I was paranoid.
At uni the clinic performed STD tests and treatments cheap and easy. That was good, because I came back positive more than I would like to admit. Today, after a wild weekend, I will use Quest.
Where do you buy burner phones??
Any attorneys using DocuSign or the equivalent for retainers, settlement etc?
Yes, for retainer agreements, client signed declarations / verifications in family cases and probate cases, but I'm unwilling to do so for settlement agreements and any final decrees (divorce/custody/separation). For the latter I still have clients come in to sign physical paper with blue ink. For things requiring notary (POAs, Trusts, Deeds, etc) I also still do in person at the office or a mobile notary.
It apparently just dawned on the CDC that fully vaccinated people generally don't need to wear a mask or practice social distancing.
Vaccines sure are great!
Great. How do you weed out the liars and anti-vax lunatics?
Fuck off, if I self-identify as vaxxed, I am vaxxed, and you can't tell me otherwise. Take your bigotry elsewhere. he/him/vaxxed
Fuk covid
This blog needs to add a Like button, because I would heart @2:49. I literally spit out my drink and almost died from laughing. That was a perfect response.
"How do you weed out the liars and anti-vax lunatics?"
Why do you care if you are vaxxed? They can all spread it to each other – considere it evolution in action.
If you're going to bang your stripper client, sub in another attorney first so that when her baby daddy reports you to the bar, you can prove she was no longer your client when the copulation took place.
"Lawyers are people just like anyone else"? Prove it
I've only had sex with my current wife and don't regret that for a second. It does help that she's still hot after all these years.
I've only had sex with your current wife too. Oh, and 1:25's mom.
Oh honey…
@1:31, guess I'm gonna need one of those STD tests too. 1:25's mom was worth it though amirite

Sex with lawyers sucks. One bj with a fellow lawyer was good. He was horrible in bed. One partner at Lewis and Roca has a small penis, I have seen it. And another partner I slept with at another firm has a big penis. Another male attorney I know in town dies it with animals. All true.
OMFG thank you for spilling this tea. Now this is the kind of info I want. I bet I cold guess the tiny penis. Large ego.
Let’s not go down this road, and say we did.
It's not small. It's average. Ho.
Does
Back in the early 90's when I was first admitted, I had this case against a female opposing counsel who was about 40 years old. She and I butted heads. Endless and pointless discovery disputes. After one particularly contentious deposition, she invited me for drinks. We ended up at her house having some of the most intense hate sex ever. She is retired now. But wow, what a deposition that turned into.
Thank you. Love it. That's sounds like how my wife and I met. Still a little rough to this day.
dang, that's hot…
Profound line of the day: If you want to know how someone lies, watch their kids. Kids learn to lie from their parents. They are unpolished versions of mom and dad.
My heart sunk. That means I am an epic bullshitter and tall tale teller. Crap. But, seriously, I was just sitting there, and this bear….
All kids lie at some point. It doesn’t necessarily mean their parents are liars. However, it does mean their parents didn’t hold them accountable for lying.
A thousand+ depositions have taught me that everyone lies. Few are particularly good at it. A select few are excellent at it. Some create new realities out of whole cloth. Fascinating to watch.
