Sparks judge reverses course on media access to hearings after being sued. [This Is Reno]
A reader tells us the Nevada Supreme Court has issued some opinions, but they’re not posted at nvcourts.gov/supreme due to technical difficulties. Anyone know more?
Four Las Vegas parks now have AED machines. Do you know how to use an AED? If you don’t, you should learn–you could save a life. [News3LV]
From not enough quality candidates for open seats to too many in some and still not enough in others? Anyone think that applications like this should just be from one pool so the choice on some departments isn’t so limited?
The same nonsense that turned the NV SOS website into a slow, sluggish, poorly designed website has infected the NVSC's website. Reminds me of the clustereff that was the Affordable Care Act website. Is it paranoid to assume the same people are responsible? Who is lining their pockets with taxpayer dollars and using a do it yourself website designer from 1996?
It isn't even a joke. Porn websites have been at the forefront of almost every major development online. Even something as simple as credit card payments. Thank porn.

I can't get the nvcourts.gov page to even load on my work computer. It works occasionally on mobile.
There are courts across the country that have great e-filing/doc access sites, it shouldn't be hard to hire someone who can actually do the job, right?

The eviction crisis is not entering a "new phase". People are just being lazy. Pay your bills deadbeats!
The eviction crisis "new phase" is inflation which is actually a completely different issue than COVID. The problem in the LL/T arena is that CHAP requires proof that the failure to pay rent is caused by COVID. 98% of tenancy defaults currently have no cognizable relationship to COVID. When CARES/CHAP was passed it was not supposed to be forever. Frankly that it has lasted 3 years is about 18 months longer than I thought it could be sustained. We can talk about the affordability of housing but continuing CHAP is a non-starter.

I'm pretty sure the forthcoming opinions section isn't working either.

There is at least one new published opinion that cannot be accessed either. Nothing on the website tells users what is wrong with the site, that they know something is wrong etc. Complete incompetence. Site has not worked for over three weeks after they pushed some font size changes.
I was thinking maybe they just closed up shop at the end of the year and didn't think to tell anyone.

I think all candidates should go in one pool to be done with it and the commission recommends what they believe are the top choices available. Maybe go with the top 5 and then the governor picks from the narrowed down choices. Mcfarling should be the top pick as we need more smart women on the bench. No on Leavitt and Kurth.
McFarling is a hard no. As far as the assertion that we need more women on the bench, 8 out of 25 seats (excluding Dept N which is vacant) on the Family Court bench are held by women (68%). I am not saying a candidate should be disqualified due to sex. But the assertion that women are underrepresented on the Family Court bench is folly.
11:54, that is the first time I've seen 8/25 described as 68%. But typos happen. For everyone else, these are the Depts currently presided over by females:
A, B, C, F, G, I, J, K, M, P, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z. So, 17/25, which is 68%.
Although, to be fair, 10:35 said we need more "smart women," and not all of the departments listed above qualify under that more restrictive standard.
It makes no sense for any of these candidates to get the nod for appointment unless and until they can show an endorsement from Emerge Nevada. I have no opinion of that organization or its goals, but Emerge Nevada's track record in defeating both male and female opponents of their preferred candidates over the last few election cycles – including at least one Sisolak-appointed female judge – speaks for itself. Consequently, appointing any judicial officer who Emerge Nevada will likely challenge in the next election represents a wasted political opportunity.
Emerge doesn’t endorse and doesn’t have “preferred candidates.” Emerge doesn’t even care if two Emerge graduates run against each other. Don’t give the cult more power by thinking their involvement does anything to help a woman win more than her X chromosomes or name change will.
Nice to see that Dept C has five candidates now, instead of one (McFarling).

Bar is promoting its solo incubator program again this week. Anyone have information that might help someone wanting to go solo decide whether it's worth the time and money ($3,000 unless you qualify for a scholarship)?
11:55 hahahahaha that is very funny on so many levels. I consider myself an amateur comedian (watch all the youtube videos on comedy writing, etc.) and the structure of that is very funny! Well done
That’s insane. Pay $3000 for what? That terrible article to be regurgitated in a classroom format? No way. Save your $3000. You’ll need it to pay Rob Bare when Hooge and Hahn start prosecuting (persecuting?) you for some imaginary offense against a karen.
The ONLY thing I admire Hooge for is his career path. Learn the ways of OBC – then charge $600 and hour later for those raped by the bar. Along the way, make sure to continue the socialization internally in the bar to make sure his work continues after he leaves.
re the comment about Rob Bare – I second that. he's awesome if you ever need any expert opinion related to ethics, bar complaints, legal mal or defending yourself (or others) against OBC.
You do have to like the fact that Hooge's picture looks like a hamhanded selfie that someone would take after getting a text message from a connection off of OKCupid.
Mohr switching departments. Now all she has to do is convince Lombardo not to pick Reynolds — SUCH a good choice . . .

Mr. Ferguson put his reason for leaving Nye County as not wanting to work for the DA, but he was actually terminated. See EMRB case 2019-07. Isn't this lying on an official document?

WTAF is so hard about making a website that has a few links to pdfs??? This is a high school level project.
NSC needs to just hire the Brazzers or PornHub IT crew. They seem to know how to make a website work.

Good Lord – no on McFarling

Where is the "RED" equivalent of this ORG.
The “red” equivalent: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_boomers
Nice…… jerk off.
Since this is Vegas, why aren't we entitled to a cage match – baby oil, a ladder and some judgeship belts hanging from the ceiling?
Nice to see that Dept C has five candidates now, instead of one (McFarling).

The $3000 fee got my attention. Isn't the bar supposed to help attorneys? Isn't this why we belong and pay dues?
Save the $3,000 and use it to fight the bar when they inevitably come for you as a SOLO.
What are you complaining about? I bet you have $3000 in your IOLTA account that could cover the cost.
11:55 hahahahaha that is very funny on so many levels. I consider myself an amateur comedian (watch all the youtube videos on comedy writing, etc.) and the structure of that is very funny! Well done

Does any one know Mr. Bare's hourly fee? What/if does he charge for an initial consultation? Asking for a friend
$500/hour Not sure about the consult fee. Email him and ask.
Can confirm. Rob is $500/hr. Have hired. Worth every penny.
Nettles Morris break up? Brian is no longer on the website.
Retired.
He sold the firm to her a couple of years ago. Retired.
Well, there were a couple of last-minute applications that are interesting.
Such as?
Hooge?
