Unemployment Fraud is very real – I have had a fake claim filed on my behalf as well as a half dozen other people I know in my and other firms. I have multiple protections for my SS# (LifeLock and other programs like that) and I have no idea how they were able to obtain my information – unless of course DETR was hacked.

Hi, our office is contemplating an action against DETR for similarly situated employers and individuals. Please feel free to contact me at PGarg@GargGolden.com to discuss. Thanks.

11:17, seeking clients on the legal blog is pretty bad, but it is better than taking bail out money, Eglet and Prince, and using it for campaign contributions. That is criminal.

So Sissylack has 100 staff to throw into harassing and fining businesses, but couldn't find staff to process legitimate unemployment claims, and especially independent contract claims? My hairstylist still breaks down in tears talking about how she has received nothing and had to borrow money to survive the lockdown when that POS illegally ordered her to stay home and starve. She will not make it through a second lockdown.

I like the way they are called "ambassadors" not "enforcers." Okay, take the same mental attitude toward the police.

Jacobson v Massachusetts says that the state can enforce public health laws. Texas is using this precedent to argue that abortions can be restricted during the COVID outbreak and the 5th agreed with that argument. From your description of the gov as "sissylack" I'm guessing you're a republican. So, what's the standard? Can republicans use COVID as an excuse to withhold medical treatment from women, but democrats can't use COVID as an excuse to protect public health? So confusing. In the meantime, you should tip your hairdresser better.

It's sad that I come here to learn what is going on in my own firm. The people in charge would not tell anyone if the building was on fire.

That's probably better than my place. They would tell me the building is not on fire, and then act incredulous when I asked about the flames and the smoke. Looking at you . . . .

What kind of questions should it have? Did your firm lay anyone off? What percentage of your firm is working in office? What percentage at home? Did partners take a pay cut/reduction in distributions?

40 attorneys and support employees here. Covid not reported by any of those or their families. A client in Houston got it in June but recovered in a few days. The Houston case is the closest to my work or social circle.

8 employee firm. We were all out of the office for the first two months, then back in about 70% of the time for May and June. Now back to 100% remote. Nobody in our firm has been infected, thank goodness. I do know many people who have been infected. I know one person who has died. I do not like working from home, but the risk right now is too high. Like everyone else, I'm anxious for this to be over. It's hard to believe the United States of America, the country that won two world wars, put a man on the moon and won the cold war, is so fucking incompetent in this pandemic compared to the rest of the world.

Is it too much to ask for EJDC to let us know 60 or even 90 days out that a jury trial date is being continued? It would be helpful to know if I will be available to help spouse educate our kids at home during September and October.

OMG people hire you folks to what? Stay home? No! Their problems continue and if you want to hide behind your masks at home, feel free otherwise, show up to court, depo, etc. We can mask up, social distance, and earn the paycheck.

WTF 5:08? Virtually any hearing can be done by video or telephone. Even before COVID, tons of lawyers used court call for routine appearances, and occasionally for more important ones. There's no reason why a CMC needs to be held in person.

I had a telephonic CMC in federal court last week with contested motions argued. The audio/record was so bad, and the court ordered counsel who plan to argue motions at the next CMC to attend in person. That building is so empty that the risk of attending is close to zero.

The Constitution has been suspended. Agree or disagree with the result, Gorsuch is right on the law.

"JUSTICE GORSUCH, dissenting from denial of application for injunctive relief.

This is a simple case. Under the Governor’s edict, a 10-screen “multiplex” may host 500 moviegoers at any time. A casino, too, may cater to hundreds at once, with perhaps six people huddled at each craps table here and a similar number gathered around every roulette wheel there. Large numbers and close quarters are fine in such places. But churches, synagogues, and mosques are banned from admitting more than 50 worshippers—no matter how large the building, how distant the individuals, how many wear face masks, no matter the precautions at all. In Nevada, it seems, it is better to be in entertainment than religion. Maybe that is nothing new. But the First Amendment prohibits such obvious discrimination against the exercise of religion. The world we inhabit today, with a pandemic upon us, poses unusual challenges. But there is no world in which the Constitution permits Nevada to favor Caesars Palace over Calvary Chapel."

12:54, right or wrong is irrelevant. Don't like the law? Go change it. If you can't, deal with it. Going with your absurd example, the 14th Amendment dealt with Dred Scott decision just fine. But hey, continue to whinge about it and see where it takes you.

It does seem like we are having an overreaction to an illness that adversely affects only 1 to 2%. Killing the economy over this was unnecessary. Perhaps going forward, the right reaction is to isolate the vulnerable and let the rest survive economically until the storm passes?
