In addition to sitting down with landlords and tenants, Hardesty said mediators through the program will be able to connect with representatives from the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation along with agencies dispersing rental assistance. “It is critical to the success of this program that mediators, while sitting with landlords and tenants, are able to communicate and contact rental relief disbursement groups to ensure tenants qualify for the funds, can access the funds and that they can be dispersed properly,” Hardesty said. “We are also working with DETR to be able to establish phone lines to allow mediators to call in realtime to determine the status of that tenant’s undisbursed unemployment compensation checks. Those are critical pragmatic pieces to the mediation process.”
It is not mediation; it is tenant advocacy in its purest form. The mediators are directed to go find money for the tenants. The mediators are being trained by LACSN which advocates for tenants and represents zero landlords. The eviction tsunami is a worthwhile goal to address but this program is an irreparable mess.
I am an appointed Eviction Mediator. I have not heard a word (yet) about having to phone DETR while conducting the mediation. If true, I will be backing out immediately, because the pay is too low now and the time required to make these calls and wait on hold is way to burdensome.
11:46, your post gets me reflecting a bit on eviction moratoriums.
It is a well-intended policy that has too often been abused by people who exploit covid.
Some people needed the protection because they truly were affected by covid and either lost their incomes or were earning a lot less.
But that said, there are many people who were earning the exact same amount that they always did, but simply stopped paying their rent because they could.
There are examples of people who are hourly wage earners who did not lose their job nor receive reduced hours, or people on fixed disability income or something similar, who simply stopped paying their rent or mortgage because they could do so without repercussions.
I understand that no one wants to add additional layers of extra administrative red tape, but couldn't there be some sort of approval process wherein to be eligible for eviction moratorium that you establish and document some significant reduction of income?
The question is simple:
"Where's the money?"
"When are you going to get the money?"
"Why aren't you getting the money now?" and so on.
If rental relief funds are available, great! Provide the tenant the information at the same time they receive notice of the date of the mediation, and let them do the legwork.
These are not mediators. They are case workers assigned by a system that is infantilizing rent renegers to the point that they are relieved of the burden of even seeking welfare services.
Frankly outrageous. Landlords need to unite and sue.
Re 3:19 PM: Hear, hear. Complete malarkey. The reneger doesn't even have to take any action whatsoever other than showing up, and they probably will not have to even do that. Un-friggin believable.
No, the mediators will not be doing the legwork for tenants. The extent of their contact with rent assistance or DETR will be to inquire about the status of the application/claim to aid in a possible resolution, assuming the mediator chooses to contact them at all. It is the tenant's job to apply for the assistance in the first place.
5:20 PM Here: Don't mean to suggest that persons with legitimate needs should not receive assistance. However, if you are a tenant gaming the system you should pay an extreme price.
Re 7:54 AM: Hopefully this is true. If that is the case, see 2:02 PM.

I give up – they just found laptop with video and proof biden met with burisma – not a word on CNN, etc – unbelievable
Yes, the media is all about Dem advocacy. Example: Pelosi's meltdown with Wolf Blitzer yesterday has not been reported on any of the major networks, even CNN.
The NYPost story is so absurd why would anyone else report on it? Someone just left a laptop with incriminating info on it at a repair shop and never returned to pick it up – then it was seized from a federal subpoena – but the shopowner decided to make a copy of the harddrive and give it to Guiliani's attorney? And even though it was seized in December the incriminating info is just being published now? Sure. Sounds like everything is on the up and up.
12:48 – except… the photos and videos ARE of Hunter Biden. the emails and the text message applications are authentic – and the FBI IS investigating… DOJ will announce investigation likely next week… so.. hmm
12:50 this information has been with the FBI since December and nothing has come of it. It the DOJ had this and there was anything to it, it would be out front and center. Instead, we have Rudy Giuliani and indicted (and soon to be convicted felon) Steve Bannon leading the charge. Hoax central in my view.
I don't doubt that it could be a hoax…but could someone please explain how Hunter got in the room with the Ukraine company if it wasn't his dad's job? Like, I want to take Biden's side on this, but my kid isn't getting anywhere near a Ukraine board position, cocaine problem or no. If the answer is "yes, my kid accepted a position and money based on my name, and I didn't do anything about it because I love my kid," then fine. It's not like Trump isn't above similar nepotism moves. But I'd rather hear the explanation than just "hoax!" and "that's been debunked!"
Seems totally plausible Burisma could have hired him (1) because they thought he had connections to important people in DC because of his dad or (2) because they wanted to project to regulators and partners in Europe that they had these connections, even if they didnt. They could have hired him for either of these reasons without Biden ever lifting a finger. Unless there is some evidence of a quid pro quo, it seems normal. It's gross on Hunter's part, but no evidence Biden did anything wrong.

Let's assume worst case scenario with Hunter Biden and Burisma. Still far less malignant than the Trump family.
I agree with this. But I've tried to find an explanation and I can't find one in any publication I trust. It's all either over the top Infowars conspiracy theories or "that's a hoax and a distraction; how dare Trump say anything bad about Hunter." It seems like someone credible could take the time to spell it out for people like me that just want to know what the story even is.
Also "Trump is worse" is just as convincing to me as when my conservative friends say "would you rather have Hillary?" Trump is bad, and Biden is almost certainly at the very least the lesser of two evils, but that doesn't mean I'm not curious about our likely next president, or willing to be critical of him if warranted.

So, ballot questions.
#2 is no for me. It's currently unenforceable and noone has attempted to enforce it since it became unenforceable. It's a meaningless gesture, and I'm on the socially liberal side of the spectrum.
#3 is a yes for me. No point in requiring the Governor to agree to every clemency decision, or give him an absolute veto. No other state does.
#4 is dumb. This guarantee is already statutory. The protections to voting are existing. No reason to encourage people to try to amend the state constitution. No for me.
#5 is a no for me. Once again, there is zero reason to try and cram this into the state constitution. Make is a goal, if you want.
#1 is a yes for me. The Board of Regents doesn't like it. The Board of Regents can stuff it.
Does Steve Sanson regularly receive referral fees? I don't know him, does he have a regular, steady job?
He is a ZERO. Avoid him at all costs.
His job is to unsuccessfully run for multiple public offices, none of which he is qualified for. I think he is about 0 for 7 currently.
Claimed he was a bodyguard that time he was arrested on New Years at the Hilton intoxicated and packing heat in the Valet area. He got the case ultimately dismissed and sealed.

That would be a lot more fair.
Another nevada supreme court mess brought to you by hardesty and elissa cadish. No thanks.

Expecting the Mediators to go find money for the tenant is ridiculous and unseemly.

Where did you find this information? How could one confirm it not to just be a a hoax?
Nice effort comrade. Next time avoid use of the word "they". If you are going to advance a conspiracy theory, you need to provide plausible detail.
Yes, the media is all about Dem advocacy. Example: Pelosi's meltdown with Wolf Blitzer yesterday has not been reported on any of the major networks, even CNN.
12:10 and 12:30 – Google guys…google. Before labeling someone a conspiracy theorist for citing to a published article, perhaps you can search for it?
just a thought

No. 2 is not just about it being unenforceable surplusage right now. It's also about what happens if SCOTUS changes course.
The NY Post is a tabloid rag, a good place for this "story." Rudy Giuliani's involved so you know its an obvious crock of shit…
