Yesterday, we inadvertently omitted Nevada Legal Services from the list of pro bono opportunities in areas like taxes, veterans issues, wills and POAs, criminal record sealing, bankruptcy, consumer, etc. No family law. And they give people the opportunity to teach classes or do clinics instead of taking cases.
The World Series starts tonight–any predictions on which team of lovable losers will win this year?
As a Dodger fan, I hope they both lose. (yes i am bitter)

The awesome thing about the series is somebody is going to win who hasn't won in forever and its not going to be the Dodgers. Can anyone tell me why insurance defense lawyers are the most bitter conspiracy theorists I've ever seen in my life? I do crim and the death penalty PD's are less bitter than these guys.
They work their asses off everyday just to keep crappy clients that pay them next to nothing, all while watching their peers on the plaintiff's side rake in millions while doing almost nothing.
They're rare, but there are a few happy insurance defense attorneys. Insurance claims people are actually harder on their own defense counsel than they are on plaintiffs' attorneys. It's mostly miserable thankless work. But, if you can somehow get a few good associates busting their asses below you, the money is not awful. And it's steadier money than the plaintiffs' side makes.
Unless you count the top 5-10, the "raking in millions" is a bit of a stretch. You also have lots of shitty clients and cases you wind up dropping for enough to get the costs back. While I'm not "raking in millions" though, I'm comfortably making 25% or so more than I did on the defense side in a typical year, and have at least the chance to hit a big one every few years. The big thing is that I don't have to turn in time and answer to some miserable bean counter somewhere. After I left the defense I heard that some carriers had gone from .1 hour billing increments down to .05. Is this true? If so it would be enough to make anyone hate life and everyone around them.
Only someone who has not done quality plaintiffs work and never had their own practice would say something as stupid as 11:08. Clearly 11:08 is someone who has no balls to hang a shingle and is jealous of hard work. People that think Eglet or Prince or other great plaintiff attorneys don't work hard are delusional. They are some of the hardest working people I know, which is why they run laps around 11:08 and other similar clowns.
There are lots of insurance defense lawyers making $500k +. And lots of Plaintiffs' lawyers making a lot less than that. The top of the Plaintiffs' lawyers are definitely making a lot more than the top of the insurance defense lawyers. But you're delusional if you think all of the Plaintiffs' lawyers are making a lot more than insurance defense lawyers who are at the top.

Thank you for the update on Prof. Griffin. She is a really nice woman and I hope she recovers 100%
Bruce Gale belongs in a small room mediating among groups of CD lawyers whose main concern is to make sure the well of insurance coverage lasts for as long as possible, so that the defense billing can go on, and the supply of cookies keeps flowing. He does not belong on the bench.

I litigated with Gale, and I voted for him.
I voted for "None of the above" rather than cast a ballot in favor of Silver.
Same for me, and I also voted none of the above on Tao.
