Someone mentioned it in the comments yesterday, but if you haven’t heard what is going with the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, you should read this article from the New York Times to catch up. The short version is that the West Virginia House of Delegates passed 11 articles of impeachment against the 4 sitting justices on the Court, much of which is related to lavish spending.
There is no direct Nevada connection to this story that we know of, but it is a reminder that the judiciary is not immune from accountability. What do you think about this story?
This is why I am so glad that there is opposition in both Supreme Court races.
I am voting for Harter. I don't go for judges ignoring the law or evidence.
Stiglich is brilliant, hard-working and an excellent writer. Plus, she has the courage to call out abuses by prosecutors.
Second Stiglich. She's one of the best on the bench. I don't know Harter, for all I know he'd bee good too. But I see no reason to trade an excellent justice for an unknown.
I agree on Harter, too. I am concerned about Hardesty's influences on her.
I don't go for posters who lob vague and impossible-to-prove-or-disprove attacks on others.
I share 10:39's concerns. I think Stiglich could be sharp; however she has shown herself to be entirely beholden to Hardesty and that is truly frightening in all forms. A great legal mind undermined by lackeydom to a Bully of the Bench.
There are no attacks here. You are a public official. Any judge who has such a thick skin that you cannot handle criticism, you should bot be on the bench.
thin
An accusation that a judge ignores evidence and ignores the law is an attack on that judge.
It is not an attack. It is the truth.
From the story: "Last fall, investigative TV news reports revealed lavish office renovation spending by Supreme Court Chief Justice Allen Loughry. The profligate spending seemed particularly abhorrent in a state as cash-strapped as West Virginia. More reports followed, on the spending by Justice Loughry but also by other justices, adding up to hundreds of thousand dollars on marble, stainless steel cabinets, and a $7,500 wooden inlaid medallion depicting West Virginia."

Now that is HUGELY funny and appropriate. When Law.Dawg posts the story and says "[t]here is no direct Nevada connection to this story"…. Well maybe not direct but when you look at the Profligate Palace of Hardonsty, there could seriously be some hard questions asked (no pun intended).
Here's an article that adds to my concerns about the timing of this whole thing: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/08/west-virginia-supreme-court-why-republicans-just-impeached-all-four-sitting-justices.html
Again, the action seems appropriate, but the timing is very questionable.
Look he is not my favorite human being on the planet, but there is interesting goings-on in the Randolph Goldberg reinstatement. So at the end of a Reinstatement Hearing, the State Bar is supposed transmit the record to the Nevada Supreme Court. Just transmit the record.
SCR 116 says " Within 60 days after the hearing concludes, bar counsel shall file the record of the proceedings, together with the panel’s findings and recommendation, with the supreme court. Receipt of the record shall be acknowledged in writing by the supreme court clerk." In other words, the State Bar acts as the tribunal and is supposed to neutrally transmit the record to the Supreme Court.
In Goldberg's case, the OBC sent it up with a love note under the heading "Case Summary" detailing all of the reasons that the Panel was wrong, that the record did not support the findings and that the Supreme Court should reject it. If you EVER have any doubts how corrupt the system is where the State Bar acts as prosecutor and tribunal, this is it. The irony is that Goldberg is represented by David Clark, who was HEAD BAR COUNSEL when Goldberg's discipline began, who is the one pointing out that the system is being abused.

Oh Matt Carlyon strikes again. OBC cannot figure out when they are supposed to be advocates and when they are supposed to be neutral. Yep, these are the people who are coming after you for your license. And then add that peach in Ann Elworth. Wow things just keep getting better and better at OBC.
Wait…when did he strike the first time?
Matt has become a menace since joining the OBC. This what happens when people who have no idea what they are doing (no matter what his mom says) are given unsupervised power.
What is going on at OBC, I cannot get a hold of anybody.
They are trying to hire Stan back.
For the love of all that is Holy and Good, please tell me you are joking and the Bar has not reached in to the darkest depths of Hell and pulled Stan back to where he can torture pro bono lawyers and indirectly harm the children they help, I truly and sincerely believe Stan to be a sadist; and please do not blog back with "provide specifics," blogs are made for anonymous opinions and no one is ever going to reveal themselves, so take it for what it is worth or completely ignore me, I am just saying that I am one person who believes the above opinion
The Stan hiring back as joke. OBC in disarray right now.
It is interesting that there is no new Bar Counsel that has been appointed and that there is not even any information on who is applying for those positions.
On another note, Stan still lists the State Bar as his contact information. Guess keeping the Bar apprized of your whereabouts only applies to people who are not Stan. Meanwhile Jason Dworin has moved on to the Nye County DA's Office and David Mincavage ended up in Maui after screwing poor Asa Ginapp over. Talk about bad people landing on their feet.
Bri Corrigan managed to survive about 4 months in the OBC before she left. I thought with Janeen Isaacson taking the reins (even temporarily) that we would see some balance and reason return to OBC. Since Stan left, they are down Dworin and Corrigan and have added Ann Elworth. I would say the office is more disorganized and more unreasonable than when Stan left.
If Janeen has an ounce of dignity, she will jump off this ship.
Janeen was always the professional in the group.
Janeen USED to be the professional in the group. And I was cheering for Janeen to get the job full time. Not now. The Office was a mess and has gotten messier while she has had the temporary job. Nothing other than a wholesale housecleaning can erase what has gone on at OBC.
And then there is this prosecutor in Arizona – http://reason.com/blog/2018/08/15/az-mesa-pol-beat-body-cam-lawyer
Just out of curiosity, what does an attorney job at OBC pay? Does it include State pension? I'm interested to know how that office is able to attract anyone.
Not sure what the pay is but it is not a PERS position.
Correct. Not PERS. Pays relatively well for the lack of stress (you are immune baby) and its all the souls you can eat.
What is "relatively well"?
DoE
I cannot get a hold of anyone in OBC except the admin. assistant. I do not call to talk to the admin.
OBC is imploding like ATMs.
OBC answering service be like; we out. We out. Taking lawyers out be our route. Wanna talk Hardesty, peace out.
LMAO.
mad props to 6:32. I hope he/she/they post more often. This is what I need from this blog
Sixteen fuck ups, let me gear up the typewriter. I do not need the autocorrect on the Brother, because your fuck ups are so bad that mine will go unnoticed.
Instead of the song Sixteen Candles, it should be Sixteen Fuck Ups.
