I have appeared in front of Judge Peterson a few times now. I am impressed by how well prepared she is. She is a hard worker. I think she will end up emerging as one of our better judges.

I was not impressed with her as an attorney, but she did a solid job for the hearing I had in front of her, too.

Any guesses who will get a federal district court or 9th circuit nomination if one comes up?

Togliatti I suspect will be re-nominated. I could also see Cadish moving from the Supreme Court to a place that she would not have to campaign (as well as her relationship with Rosen serving as a basis).

Cadish was already rejected once for comments related to the 2nd amendment IIRC. My bet is she won’t be up again.

Cadish is conflicted out. Rosen cannot appoint her due to their long time friendship. Completely unethical.

Cadish was disqualified because Heller would not sign the Blue Slip. There is no such issue any longer. I think Cadish is an obvious name that will get it if she wants it.

No, on Cadish. Too many conflicts, I agree. But she has so much hubris, she will put her name in.

Justice Cadish will likely move on to the federal bench. There are no conflicts in politics.

Cadish will put her name in. She will not get it. There way more qualified people. She will not get it. Rosen would be an absolute conflict to appoint her.

I like Cadish. A more modest version of hyper-talented, super-justice Pickering. She'd make a fine Article III judge.

Weren't Cadish's comments anti-second amendment. Unfortunately, that seems to be exactly what this current administration would be looking to appoint to a Circuit position.

Federal Court is a complete and utter dysfunctional hen house. I am all in support of a male appointee, Bare, Atkin, or Denton? Although I like those men. Not sure I want to subject them to that hell hole.

As I recall, her comments were along the lines of "current law states X," with X being something about gun control, and the pro-2A people didn't like that. Soon after, Heller came out. I'm sure if you asked her now, she would tell you what the law says now. It was all political BS at the time. But isn't everything?

As I recall, at the time she made the statement, there was no settled caselaw on the subject. There were judges and analysts on both sides of the question.

There has always been settled law on the Second Amendment. There is a reason the right to bear arms is the 2nd Amendment after the First Amendment. The law was misinterpreted based upon an old decision. Heller (2008) merely clarified it. It was sort of like when the 5th and 6th Amendment i.e. Miranda and right to counsel were made applicable to the states. The old 1939 case was U.S. v. Miller which was interpreted as only applying the Second Amendment to the federal government. Gun rights are a big deal now. The world is a much more dangerous place. Utah just passed constitutional carry no concealed permit required. This is what Nevada needs.

The world is not a more dangerous place. We are living in the golden age, just look at life expectancy stats. Appreciate what we have.

Also, so there was an old opinion that misinterpreted 2A, but it has always been settled law? Hmmmm…..

But could the judge order the juror to take it? As of now, I think CDC is reporting ~1k deaths or suspected deaths from the vaccines. At what number can a potential juror say no?

3:31 No, the CDC is not reporting 1k deaths from the vaccine. Through December 21, 2020–January 10, 2021 Approx 4MM doses were administered, and 10 cases of anaphlaxis were noted.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7004e1.htm

Through January 18, 2021 there were 196 deaths "temporally associated". Meaning a person who got the vaccine died soon therafter. This is not causation either. The median age was 79 (ranging from 25-104), with 57% above age 65. 66^ were a long-term care facility resident. this is out of nearly 17 MM doses. This study noted between 2.8 (Moderna) and 5 (Pfizer) cases of anaphlaxis per million doses. (total of 71 for 17 million doses)

Any impressions on any of the ten newly elected Family Court Judges(Almase, Butler, Mercer, Perry, Cutter, Pickard, Bailey, Rocheleau, Throne and Charter)?

Also, there are another two–Gibson and Forsberg–just appointed over the last year or two, so commentary on them would be welcome as well.

So, what input do posters have as to these twelve? Which ones have hit the ground running, as opposed to which ones appear overwhelmed by calendar control issues?

Are any of them already exhibiting an uneven or unpleasant temperament?

I heard rumors from court staff that Forsberg spent most of her hearings screaming at people. Can now confirm the rumors. She has no control over her courtroom or herself. She's not cut out for the bench.

I am a long-time family law practitioner and although Perry is very nice person, I never thought of her as a great lawyer, maybe C+, but had three hearings with her and she was prepared, knowledgeable, and really a great judge. And no, I did not win all three hearings.

I've heard similar comments. If true, it's a huge improvement over the previous occupant of that dept.

Another pleasant surprise is Cutter. I did not expect her to be any good, but she was well prepared, courteous, and her order was reasonable.

12:42–Not bad. Not bad at all.

Probably not too original. The joke has probably been around for decades and all one need do is to insert the name of whatever arrogant public official, or self-absorbed individual, they are aiming the joke at.

That said, it happens to be the first time I heard the joke…so, not bad at all.

Victor "Jokes". The most inspiring columnist since Wayne Allen Root. What a little pencil-necked prick. Hey Victorious, how much does Edelson pay you a year? Bet you didn't know a beginning federal district court judge makes almost $50K more than the Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court. Or that Las Vegas Justice Court JPs make the same as Court of Appeals Judges, and $5K more than Nevada District Court judges. What have you got to say for yourself now, you "muckraker". Oh, please . . .
