TTHHWWAACCKK!!! and FIRST!!!
Speaking of animal cruelty, does anyone remember about 10 years ago when two Berkley law students murdered at least one of the rare exotic birds from the Flamingo Hotel Exotic Bird Habitat. It was some large guinea fowl type bird and had lived in the habitat for like 15 years.
One of them chased her into the bushes, murdered her and ripped her head off,
and then the two morons laughed hysterically while they threw her decapitated body between them, playing catch. I believe they may also have seriously injured some other rare birds before they were stopped, but I'm not sure on that.
They were charged with an offense, but it appeared that Berkley intended to allow them to continue their legal education. Whether they were drunk or not, this was beyond outrageous.
I'm no animal rights activist by any stretch, and in fact believe that some P.E.T.A people go too far on occasion.
With that understood, regardless of these two being drunk and relatively young, I say there is no excuse for allowing either of those two monsters to ever practice law.
Does anyone know what happened to those two. Were they allowed into the Cal. Bar?
I know a lawyer wrote that because of the amount of detail and the request that someone else find the answer. Like literally you'd use less time searching for the answer yourself than it took to write this post.
12:17-he's either a partner or a senior associate who is accustomed to delegating things, and who spices up the research assignments with provocative issues and inquiries.
But 12:09 may in fact have researched it to a limited, cursory extent and come up blank. I just looked it up and the trail seems to end in 2012, the year it occurred. I guess if I had done a deeper dive, I might find an update, but so far all I see is coverage from back in 2012. Now that I think of it, I can enter each of their names and see if they are currently barred in California.
It was definitely a senseless, sickening act of wanton cruelty.
I totally agree it was a sickening, senseless act of depraved cruelty
I'm really glad I missed the news on whatever day this occurred 10 years ago. A few years back, Nevada really beefed up animal cruelty criminal statutes, but that may have occurred a bit after this repulsive incident.
I didn’t like birds and graduated top of my class. I now have my own law firm and advertise my practice via billboards and TV here in Nevada. I also drive several exotic cars. I
They were Eric Cuellar and Justin Teixeira. Cuellar is licensed in Texas. Teixeira is a VP for marketing for some firm in London, England. Neither are Calif. attys.
Just to make sure I had not gotten rusty at research. Eric Cuellar and Justin Teixiera. Teixeira passed the California Bar Exam while he was awaiting sentencing but never passed character and fitness to be admitted in California. Cuellar moved to Texas and got admitted there.

They surely could have long sealed this.
And the bird's name was Turk.
1:52, so Cal. blocked one of them based on character and fitness as to this incident, but Texas did not experience the same concern and agreed to admit the other one of them to practice.
Logical conclusion: Cal. Bar Admissions finds it an act of depravity to tear the head off an exotic bird, but Texas Bar Admissions does not necessarily share that view.
2:52–perhaps. Or it could be the one who got admitted was not the one who tore the head off, although he did apparently play a game of catch with the decapitated carcass. Also, perhaps he demonstrated some true remorse and the other kid did not. Could be.
I don't believe any of this can be at all mitigated by it being a drunken frat boy type stunt by two young morons who have a lot of growing up to do, and therefore we should partially forgive them.
Some people may feel that way, and I understand. But for me, it's just too sick. I remember this when it happened. 12:09 gets 10 lashes with a wet noodle for reminding us of this hideous incident.
Also, as 12:17 suggests, 12:09 must resort to conducting some of their own research.
What about contributory negligence on the bird's part? And you call yourselves lawyers.
I was there. Turk was squawking at these guys. RIP but don't pick a fight you can't win.
10:11 good advice!
Sad to hear about Judge Colvin. She was one of the best non-attorney judges anywhere in the state. In fact, she was better than most JPs who do have law degrees. RIP.
Had matters before JP Colvin on a number of occasions. Always professional and compassionate. We will miss her.
12:17 There was a partner at my firm when I was starting out that if you asked him a question about anything legal, he would tell you that your job as a lawyer is to figure out the answer to questions on your own.
Sounds like an ass, not really a great mentor huh
