Ted Cruz's speech did not overshadow anything that occurred at the convention last night. Newt Gingrich's speech, which occurred shortly after Ted Cruz spoke, was brilliant message control. If you actually watched last night, you know this. But, if you only listened to the media's take and sound bites, you would think that Ted Cruz overshadowed the night.

I only saw the talking heads afterwards. Didn't even know Gingrich spoke last night. Almost didn't know that Pence spoke.

More people watch Sports Center than any particular game, unless it’s a championship. Don’t kid yourself. It’s all about the highlights.

If you're only watching the highlights, then please spare me your attempt to speak intelligently on an issue.

Blog is, like Ted Cruz's political aspirations, dead.

I was surprised to see actual reporting in the Sun. I thought all of the reporters had been run off by Greenspun. That's a crazy scam.

Friend? Wilson Elser? You obviously don't know me!

(Just kidding guys, Wilson Elser is fine. I'd never work there, but I've gotten along with the attorneys I've met that work there).

Lowry's blog is a great resource, wish I had more time to read it. On more than one occasion I've cited to cases he has referenced in his blog on nuanced discovery issues, with varying degrees of success.

I've never been impressed with Wilson Elser as a firm, hope he's getting a boatload of money.

Every door at WE also swings out. Unless you are David Kahn, everyone seems to take that option.

I've had lunch once with Lowry, so I don't know him real well, but he seems like a genuinely good guy. And his blog is, without question, the very best legal blog written by a Nevada attorney. I am a regular reader and have learned a lot about civil procedure from it. It's a great resource and a tremendous service to our community.

Lean Belly Breakthrough Review

If you have been meaning to getting around to improving your eating habits & getting into shape, you will be glad to hear that using good meal replacement protein shakes will make the task much easier. A well balanced diet is always the best answer to health & a slim body but it's not always possible to have the right foods available for every meal & this is when a meal replacement shake will be just perfect to provide you with the nutrition your body needs. Furthermore, research (published in the Journal of Nutrition) has shown that scientifically formulated meal replacement protein shakes are just as effective in reducing weight as a structured weight loss diet program devised by a nutritionist. Meal Replacements vs a Balanced Diet

I would like to congratulate Lowry on at least having the potential to make six figures now. He's really arrived.

Brutal. Insurance defense really sounds like hell on earth. I guess you get into court, which is more than I could say when I was a big firm drone, but you make so little and insurance companies are such shitty clients.

Shitty clients who increasingly demand that you do shitty things to "save" them shitty little amounts of money, under constant threat of losing their business to someone else who promises to be more shitty than you are, and to do it for an even shittier hourly rate. It's all very uplifting.

@7:45 is mistaken. WEMED's recent PPP was $425k. Also, about a year to two ago, I recall seeing a chart from Am Law showing its average equity partner compensation was around $600k, although I couldn't find that link again. If Lowry can make equity partner at WEMED (and based on the sharp intellect and legal acumen he has demonstrated on his blog, I have ever reason to believe he could be WEMED's Vegas managing partner someday), he'll do very well there financially.

600k? In insurance defense? In this town? I don't know what the rates are like these days, but it seems to me you would need to have a fair number of associates chained to the oars of your particular ship, and be flogging them incessantly, to make anything close to that. The math doesn't work, unless rates have gone way up.

@11:37 here. I couldn't find the prior Am Law publication from a few years back showing that on a national level (i.e., not Vegas specific), WEMED's average equity compensation was $600k, but the link below reaffirms the number that I saw in the Am Law publication a few years ago:

This might be totally different for Vegas. This is anecdotal, but when I worked at a national firm, firm lawyers that worked in LA/NY/DC/SF/Chi-type cities made a lot more than us lowly Vegas lawyers. Like double.

True, but then they went home to their $1.5 million 2 bedroom condos.

12:15 here: I'm not saying that their higher salaries weren't warranted by their increased cost of living, I just think it's misleading to assume "this national firm's PPP is 600k, so a partner in their Vega office probably makes about that." At least in my experience, the PPP of a national firm is next to meaningless when it comes to figuring out what the PPP of its Vegas office is.

AMLAW Profits per partner rarely apply to BIGLAW's las vegas offices. I guarantee you that there are very few, if any, partners at WEMED making $425k. And keep in mind PPP is not the same as salary. PPP includes everything a partner gets, including health insurance, 401k matching, etc. WEMED is going to be similar to Lewis Brisbois in terms of pay and non-equity partners at Lewis Brisbois are making in the range of $120k in salary. There are more non-equity than equity partners at both places.
