Often, I like to go out to lunch on the strip with attorneys from my office. Valet parking makes it easy to get in and out for a business lunch at a great restaurant. But, charging locals for valet is insane and I'll take my lunch business off-strip in the future.
Weren't you tipping though? So just pay and don't tip? That's what I do when they charge for valet. (Also, is this a douche move? I try to tip well but I'm never sure what the rules are outside of the sit down meal where you're served by the restaurant).
Oh thats a great move… instead of the money going to the valet who gets paid peanuts plus tips, take the tips from them leaving them with just peanuts and instead give it to the property owner that already makes billions…

As much as I dislike Adelson as a person, at least his properties haven't jumped on that bandwagon yet. I like the Palazzo and will probably go there the next time I need to go to the strip.

Valet attendants at the premium strip hotels make a surprisingly good living. That is especially so in light of the fact that most of them only pay taxes on the measly hourly wage and not on the much higher cash tips.
It's a shitty job and I would not want to do it; but I've known a few and they make substantially more than most 1-5 year associates. And they pay a lot less in taxes. And they don't have student loans.
Valet and bartenders and most tip positions at hotels have a tip compliance agreement, so they pay taxes on a set amount, which is their wage and average tips.

It looks like the Wynn and Encore are also going to start charging for parking. Screw them all. I will avoid parking downtown at all costs.
Wynn and Encore are only charging for valet. Self park seems to remain free.
