The AG's office is the worst-run legal office in state, hands down. And this is in no way a political opinion, it's been run like garbage for at least the last 20 years. The AG is also (obviously) a politician and what the position really needs is a good bureaucrat who understands how state government works. Also, the AG's office promotes whoever can tolerate the poor pay and poor conditions the longest which has the exact result you would expect.

Difficult concept to summarize in a text but there is a culture stemming from the type of people who moved here in 1950s, through mob days, through emphasis on money, etc. that permeates every aspect of Vegas incl lawyers, Bar, bar counsel, and gov entities. Not saying outright criminals but Culture is different. Quick example, I’m licensed in a mid-west stare too and rarely do talk about money. It’s considered tacky and low life to discuss money there. Here it’s common to say, that case was worth a lot, etc. I’d never say that there.

While I am sympathetic to the argument that LVJC is a trainwreck on multiple fronts (civil, traffic tickets, evictions), the Maridon/Holper argument falls a little (lot) flat for me. Are they actually advocating that the Court should go back to bench warrants to unpaid traffic tickets– talk about screwing your own clients.

The new system is horribly flawed because it represented another poorly funded mandate that was dumped on the Court. But it is far better than the old system.

Legal Question (please no politics): I read an article Trump will not pay for his co-defendants. Is he prohibited because it would be like bribing those that could incriminate him? Surely, he will realize the DA charged so many hoping a couple would turn on Trump and not paying seems to play into their plan. Obviously I don't do criminal law. Thanks.

Folks I had a relative that faced federal charges. The family spent $350K on her defense. The Feds got their conviction and she served 8 years of 10.5 sentence. She was close to getting charges tossed but there was a retrial. It is no laughing matter facing federal charges. The rights of the accused are much less than in state court. No blanket discovery and trial by ambush. The circuit court of appeals affirmed the conviction. The Feds rely a lot of witnesses that turn and informers. Hard to beat them at their game. They even plant witnesses in organizations.

OBC got another bench slap for their over zealous BS. Shocking.

Having read the order in 86377, it is extremely disturbing that the Bar went after this colleague. It's pretty obvious this attorney *did everything exactly right* with regard to protecting her vulnerable client and then withdrawing when the conflict emerged. So perfect that I would use this as an example in a professional responsibility class in law school of what TO DO. Terrible, horrible judgment by the State Bar on this one. It really is too bad that there isn't some kind of skin in the game for mistakes like this.
