I sure hope he didn’t take himself out.

There was a post a few weeks back that alluded to this event. Prayers to his family.

We’re averaging a suicide every 6 months in this legal community. When the absolute fuck is the state bar going to recognize that this is a fucking emergency? A couple free therapy appointments (that require you to out yourself to the bar) ain’t cutting it.

As long as the OBC keeps hiring former prosecutors (a hammer sees every problem as a nail), it will never be solved. Some bars hire from a more rounded perspective (different work experience, PDs, etc.). By their actions, one can tell they simply don’t give a shit.

Because financial struggles so often play a role in suicide, I would humbly add that SBN could stop bleeding young/new lawyers DRY with the outrageous bar exam costs (once if you’re lucky, not the case here… used $150 to use my own laptop both times as well), licensing and section fees, and… a $300 mandatory TIP program?????????????????????

Some of us (not all, never really realized I was working class until I went to law school) are coming off of three years of not making much money ON TOP OF student loans and/or paying for law school, bar study costs, money struggles during COVID, and insane cost of housing and living increases.

I feel fortunate to make more than the average American, but the $90k some of ya’ll are paying new attorneys for working 50-60 hours a week is not doing the same thing it was 10 years ago (especially when some of us are spending $200+ a month in gas to drive across town to sit in an office when we actually get more VALUABLE, PROFIT-GENERATING work done at home because we aren’t being sent on side quests all day, but I digress). If it actually cares about mental health, the least the state bar could do is stop robbing us blind (preferably all of us, but especially those of us who haven’t had a chance to make any money yet). And no, not all firms are covering them!

Durango is very nice, like Redrock but without the Summerlin! and the SW is underrated in general, nice to see so much development out here

Got to go to a preview day. It’s nice. Ate at most all of the restaurants and found all to be very good. Especially the steak house. I would put that steak up against any I have had on the strip. Also won over 300k playing roulette. Too bad I didn’t get to keep the money. Don’t think that will ever happen again as if I ever am getting 5k chips again I am not going to play them at the roulette table lol.

Twitter is critical for this type of information.

A service like what Twitter used to be would be great for this type of information. Now you can’t see anything, search, see comments, etc. without signing into twitter. So dumb.

I don’t mind logging in. Once the Ad-free version comes online I will pay for that.

The algos are finally not working overtime telling us what to see and showing us what we want to see. Much more organic.

Law school has now officially been evacuated – Boyd cancels Finals til Saturday and intends to plan makeup schedule. Reports about number of victims fluctuates, but from what I can make there have been some deaths. God bless.

I defended a case against McDonald. He was always such a snake with his fingers in all sorts of shenanigans (sorry for the mix metaphor). As i recall, he was able to retire comfortably from the city counscil after giving republic services a 20 year no bid contract.

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2000/jan/18/silver-state-contract-challenge-for-council/

However, the biggest ethical issue resulting from Silver State votes has surrounded McDonald.

McDonald chose to vote last July to extend Silver State’s trash-hauling contract even though he is friends with several of the company’s executives and dates one of its employees. Council members Gary Reese and Lynette Boggs McDonald joined him in voting to approve the contract.

“I have no conflicts,” McDonald said.

He is friends with Silver State President Steve Kalish, who threw a fund-raiser for McDonald at his bar during the councilman’s re-election campaign last year. McDonald is also friends with Silver State’s general counsel Robert Groesbeck and has dated Silver State employee Jennifer Simich.

Silver State and its related entities gave McDonald $36,800 for his re-election campaign.

I thought this headline was from the Onion or SNL but it’s real: “Biden admin expected to delay menthol cigarette ban, possible anger from Black voters cited.” Identity politics have very little place in productive conversations.

There was an active shooter that killed at least three students today where some of our kids go to college. Some of us had law clerks on campus who were barricaded in classrooms and offices with filing cabinets. Please fucking touch grass or keep it to yourself.

4:32 I am sorry for both you, those involved, and Las Vegas. I saw the headline before I saw the news about UNLV. I live in Arizona which may explain that. Once again, I’m sorry to all.
