- AG Adam Laxalt has signed Nevada on to a lawsuit challenging sage grouse protections. The lawsuit is contrary to Governor Sandoval’s position and is made while Sandoval is in China. [Las Vegas Sun]

- Did you know UNLV Boyd grads did better on the Nevada bar exam than others who took it? [UNLV Boyd]
There is probably some nuance at play that I do not understand, but how can a lawyer (Laxalt) ethically sign onto a lawsuit his client (the State, acting through its top administrator Sandoval) did not authorize and does not want to be a part of?
Yep, I agree. That's a paddlin'
Because Laxalt's client is the State of Nevada, not the Governor. It is his duty and authority to represent the State's legal interests in court. The Governor has his own similar duties and authorities, and the two may overlap in some cases, but the NRS pretty clearly authorizes the attorney general in many instances, such as this one, to participate in lawsuits based on his own judgment of Nevada's interests. Nevada, like many states, for better or worse has an executive branch structured with an independently elected attorney general who does not answer to the governor or any other executive official.
It's still a dick move. How often does an AG take a position contrary to a Governor of his own party? Not done in polite society.
It's not uncommon for governors and AGs to be of different parties in states where they are elected independently, and where that is the case contrary positions are not uncommon. Also, calling it a "dick" move presumes that the Governor's position is the right one. If the Governor's position is in fact the wrong one (in the eyes of the state GOP), which may very well be the case given Heller's, Heck's and others' public approval of Laxalt's actions, then it is the Governor who is being a "dick," not Laxalt for opposing him.
Is Laxalt Boyd '13?
Laxalt seems more connected to the Fiore side of the party. God, I love her.
Wish I could upvote the paddlin'
Laxalt will be a one and done.
Fiore has two I'd like to do.
Bam! Fiore is rightwingelicious. Way crazier and curvier and hotter than Sara Palin. Bada bing bada boom.
To be generous, Fiore is plus sized, you guys need to get out more. There's a saying, "Cute for the RJC" to describe most somewhat attractive female attorneys. The point being that most "cute" female attorneys are cute until you leave the building. Fiore isn't even that. At best she's "Cute for a recent parolee".
I think it is unkind to judge a person on weight. It is true that Fiore is not some size 2 liberal twig. She is a big, strong and smart woman.
Fiore is an idiot.
Fiore can search me for weapons anytime…….I waive my rights too.
I am sure Fiore would want to search your fat ass you pos.
Boyd graduates are retarded and especially those in the last 3 years.
^Not Boyd 2013 grads
2013 was the last graduating class before they lowered the admission standards considerably.
Boyd graduates should, of course, do better than others on the bar. They reside in Nevada and were devoted to the test. They all took a bar review course and studied more or less full time for the exam. The bar exam is geared toward recent law grads. The law school also did its part in focusing graduates on the test. Under these circumstances their pass rate should be better than others. It is anticipated it should rise even higher.
There he goes again…
How come they did not compare likes to likes on the bar results?. Those results are tabulated by the State Bar. How did graduates of other law schools do on the bar? B.Y.U has consistently outperformed Boyd on the bar pass rate.
B.oy Y.ou're U.gly
Agreed. Take out the bar-takers from unaccredited CA schools and the statistics might show UNLV's passage rate is lower than out-of-state takers.
I'm a Boyd grad and I find the pass rate pretty unimpressive. When I graduated, the pass rate was 80%. The year after, it was 85%. I figured the classes would be getting smarter and smarter, but the downward trend suggests either the bar is getting harder, the newest class is struggling more than the older classes, or a combination of the two.
@11:50: That should be easy. Graduates from unaccredited law schools can't take the bar in Nevada. See SCR 51(c). If you need help with legal research, I'm sure a Boyd grad would take pity on you and teach you what you need to know.
@12:30 sounds like a Class o' 13er. Well said, @12:30, well said.
Class o'13 of anywhere but Boyd.
How much lower were the admission standards–LSAT score drop? LSAT score drop could explain drop in bar pass rate. However, bar pass rate was decent and in the ball park.
Evidence is for newbies. I just go with what my gut tells me. My gut tells me that Boyd is bad. California is bad. Bar numbers that are higher than mine are bad. Spicy foods are good at first, but then bad. The February bar exam is bad.
And of course, fire bad.
@12:30PM Graduates of foreign or unaccredited law schools can petition the functional equivalency committee for permission to sit. There aren't a lot of petitioners, maybe 10 per bar, and they seldom pass.
Boom! How you like them apples 12:30 pm.
By the way, the Arizona Bar Exam results came out and the pass rate was 57 per cent which was lower than Nevada. Arizona utilizes the Uniform Bar Exam and the pass rate appears to be going down. Thanks to the person who posted the articles about the law school scam and the dismal pass rate (30 per cent) for these for profit law schools like Arizona Summit. ASU and U of A had pass rates about 85 per cent.
