Fun news day, The Nevada department of corrections is chronically underfunded and understaffed. Judges keep sending people up but the legislature won’t give them money to do their job.

Yes. Let’s throw millions of more tax dollars to a corrupt bloated bureaucracy full of pension seeking lifers that have no motivation to be good at their jobs. GTFOH!

Otherwise, spoken like a true bureaucrat.

Was driving by the old Alverson Taylor building yesterday and wondering if there was any updates – are they officially closed? Their website does not work and google lists them as an “Attorney referral service”.

Yes. They are done. All their associates are elsewhere. Kurt Bonds and Adam Knecht are at Hall & Evans. Eric and Bruce were basically retired since before 2017 anyway, but now LeAnn appears to have joined them in retirement.

Which, curiously, has zero attorneys named either Hall or Evans.

Adam is a good dude, no matter how you pronounce his last name. And he is a member of that illustrious Boyd Class of ’13.

We should amend NRS 388.887 to include mandatory instruction on the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Fair is fair.

Maybe the Gazans should point out the criminals?
What a thought. The Gazans could help themselves.

Ok EJDC explain why my email address is on the service list and when I go to download a document, it says I don’t have access. The email address I typed in is literally on the service list. This job sucks enough without court administration adding additional, useless hoops for us to jump though. And forget about calling for assistance because they can’t answer their phones either.

Just tested a few older service emails from last week, and the email verification seems to have been removed?

I downloaded an item today and was required to verify my email address is actually mine.

Court administration is off the rails. First, without warning they block access to all “C” family cases (custody). They do this even with a decision pending from the Supremes on the issue of sealing cases. This causes everyone with a “C” case to take time off and go to the courthouse, wait in line, and pull copies of documents from their cases (I wonder if they were charged a fee for the downloads?). Now, when will court admin reverse the “C” case sealing? And of course, now we have to verify that a filed document, sent to my email address, is actually mine by verifying my email address. Perhaps this policy was put in place to keep prying eyes off of publicly available documents. The inmates are running the asylum.

In a region with a high percentage of dimwits, Jeff German was a bright spot. He could have been an investigative reporter on any major American newspaper; but he stayed in Vegas and, despite a mostly poorly-educated populace, wrote well and challenged us to think. He maintained high standards despite a readership with decidedly low standards. He’ll be missed.

Telles is just the sort of grifter that wanders his way into public office when the electorate is mostly stupid, ill-informed, and easily manipulated. German was too good for the people who elected Telles.

Las Vegas is a terrible place.

Family court bar is in an uproar. The Falconi writs have freaked them all out. They’re challenging anyone who agrees with ONJ and kicking people off the family court listserv. It’s funny to see adults act so outraged and scared over a piece of paper.

Family Law Proceedings are presumptively open to the public, subject only to a narrowly tailored specific and articulate need.
Falconi v Eighth Jud. Dist. Ct is published.

God help us if Hibbetts or Mendoza are appointed. Mendoza can’t turn off the condescension to save her own life. She is absolutely insufferable. Hibbetts is too gossipy and bitter Betty to get the job done. The EJDC has gone to hell. My vote is for Stevens, because at least he has judicial temperament.

Three assistant DA’s with 10-15 years or so of experience. Quite the diverse group. Another disaster for civil practicioners. EJDC needs to be divided into a civil and a criminal division for electoral purposes, not just administratively. You run/apply for either a civil seat or a criminal seat, and never the twain shall meet.

There’s no guarantee that DC 27 will remain all-civil. They reassign pretty frequently.

true, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’re going to be short one civil experienced judge now or that it doesn’t make sense to have criminal prosecutors suddenly deciding contractual disputes where they don’t even have experience.

If you think the RJC crowd is bad, wait till you see what family court has been up to. Already judges and attorneys are freaking out. There’s an attorney who likely committed crimes in the course of representing his client in family court…probably peeing his pants right now.

@9:37 the appointment of a DA to the bench should have been expected. Look who’s doing the appointing.

Is Mendoza related to the late Judge John Mendoza?
