The Nevada Bar’s annual meeting (held in NYC this year) is over. You can see some pictures on the twitter feed. Next year’s location: Santa Fe, New Mexico.
We heard enough times this debate about having the meeting in state versus out of state, but if it has to be out of state, where would you hold it? Would you default to Hawaii? Do you think it should continually rotate cities? Should it stay west of the Mississippi? What about a cruise ship?
I would hold it in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Hawaii on a rotating 3 year cycle.

Someone yesterday said it perfectly. San Diego would be a great choice, easy to get to, everybody likes it there, then the BOG would book the Hotel Del Coronado which would price most of us out.

I wasn't thrilled traveling 8 hours to New York for the conference. Restaurants are very expensive even compared to LV Strip restaurants. I will rate the event an 8.5 / 10. It was worth the trip for me. The sessions were well done and everyone seemed relaxed.

Who cares where they hold it. The State Bar convention is miserable. I always find it funny that no one attends the CLE classes, but somehow all submit certificates saying they did. I have attended 2 State Bar conventions and it was one of the most boring conventions ever. The Plaintiff’s bar puts on a much better convention, whether it is NJA or one of the many plaintiff groups putting on conferences these days. Those plaintiff attorneys know how to have fun.

The annual conferences are too clumsy, out of the way and expensive for most lawyers. The Bar is supposed to represent all of the members, provide services to ALL of the Members. Not to the few.
I would feel a little less angry if BOG had to pay their own way out of their own, not their firm's, pocket. Making that one change would probably result in annual meetings that are more accessible/affordable.

Anyone see the Supreme Court smack down the state bar for some ridiculous charges against Joe Maridon. State Bar brought charges because Joe was rude and making a record for appeal regarding a traffic ticket. What an absurd basis to bring discipline. Supreme Court said, this is absurd and dismissed case.

We have toyed with mandatory insurance, mandatory CLE, mandatory DEI, mandatory substance abuse/mental health. Next up? Mandatory attendance at the Bar Convention to justify BoG choices.

Tip meant to help my fellow practitioners: I am dumb. I have spent, not billing anyone, since early this morning trying to do a proper Table of Contents in Word for an Appeal. Watched videos, etc. Yes, I know, Word has a funky TOC function, etc. But I finally got it to work by making a Table and then changing the border to none. Looks great. I'm sure most of you already knew this, but just trying to be a good blog member.

I can't think of a single reason why I would want to go to the annual convention, even if it was free and in my backyard.

Apparently Elon Musk and Mark Cuckerberg have agreed to a cage fight, which will be held in Las Vegas. Wonder if this will actually happen and if so, who will insure such an event. Also if one of them gets hurt, I wonder if it will end up in lit.

Wow $5,000 to attend the State Bar Conference in NYC. The the one I went to years ago was not too bad. Flew to Reno on Southwest points. Rented a car and drove to Tahoe stayed at Squaw Valley. They got reduced rate for hotel. I was on the State Bar committee so they gave us free tuition and reimbursed on us a stipend for some expenses. There were some pricey meals and but had breakfasts, lunches and happy hours included. It still added up. I have been told that the State Bar does not pay for the its Presidents or past Presidents to attend they just give them stipend and freebies. But some of the public or corporate lawyers get their organizations to pay for all of it. There are cheaper ways to get your CLE requirements but the convention does offer CLE not sure if it is the full year's worth.

I am leaving to start my own solo firm soon. My clients will be a mix of non-PI litigation and some transactional work. What is the best ATTORNEY SOFTWARE

what is the new website for the clark county court portal? Tyler Technologies changed it slightly and forgot to write it down over the 1-2 week period where it flashed briefly online
