The Nevada Supreme Court has not listed any new unpublished orders in the last two weeks. Does anyone know if they are on vacation or if they're just behind on posting the orders?
Justice Saitta was the only one working. She left.
The Courts usually replace their law clerks around August. And since the law clerks are the ones really going through all the papers to draft a bench memo for the judges to read, it makes sense that they would be slow during august the the new law clerks are getting up to pace with whats going on
The Court employs a shitload of permanent staff attorneys and those are the people who are drafting most of the unpublished orders. The law clerk shuffle should have a minimal impact on most of the cases.
@4:38 How many staff attorneys does the Court employ?
court of appeals and supreme court have separate staff attorneys and so does the clerk office
Wait, what? Wasn't one of the selling points that the CoA and SC would share staff attorneys? The only new staff was going to be the judges, their JEAs, and their law clerks. Is there anything they didn't lie about?
They just moved some supreme court staff attorneys to the court of appeals, not new positions
The Court tends to be very inactive during August. This year you have the added complication of a vacant Seat G.
They are just lazy. Now that they have an intermediate court of appeals, they can put out the same number of decisions with 33% more manpower while skipping over the issues clogging the court.
Inevitable crash and burn. Surprised it took this long. Talk to her former co-workers at D.A.'s and NLV City Atty Office and a clearer picture will emerge. She is still a nice person on many levels but was in over her head as a Judge and a more so a politician.
Being good at one job is not a good predictor of being good at a different job.
The Peter Principle wins again!
I have never heard that she was good at her prior job. They're both bad, but Hoeffgen is worse as a judge. She really wants things to be right. He really wants people to not ask questions.
Nevada trusts getting lots of press lately. Maybe I will need one when I get my law school debts paid off. Lol
Your boss needs one.
Why would someone set up a 365 year trust??? Who cares that far in the future? You'll be dead anyway.
Uh…no estate taxes for 365 years. That's why.
I have always enjoyed that the rule against perpetuities in Nevada is 365 years. I like to call it a year of years. Some people really want to exercise that dead-hand control.
I still don't under stand the rule against perpetuities. Didn't understand it in law school, and still have no idea WTF it means.
Nevada lets you avoid estate taxes for 365 years. That's what it means.
Tsunami of new unpublished orders on NSC website. Web-nerd must have been busy deleting emails and didn't have time to post as these were issued.
. . . Order for DISCIPLE ????
Yes, my child, that would be Peter, Paul, Luke, Matthew, etc. How can I help you?
Paul was never a disciple. His apostleship came later. And that's the most religion this blog has seen in a long time.
