Congrats to James Urrutia on that $4.6 million settlement—according to the settlement agreement submitted to the Board of Examiners—his firm is getting $1.8 million of it.
Re DMV reporting, I see a budding area of law in divorce cases where one spouse tears off the sticker, reports the other spouse’s car as unregistered and then the lawyer has to fix it and include it in the case. Will need proof it was done, costs to fix, how it affected children as car can’t be driven to school temporarily, etc. Divorce litigants miss no opportunities for mischief.
My partner has a family law attorney that wandered into our area of practice for a case, behaved like a family law attorney in front of a real judge down at the RJC and got ABSOLUTELY NUKED. This dude did not recalibrate to his setting.

What was the claim?

The state paid $1.6 million for killing an inmate in 2023. Inflation is crazy.
Shocking result for this attorney.

Ooh.. so much fun for family law attorneys
I absolutely hate family law. I wish I knew how to get into another area.

RIP Judge Shirley
Did he die? He was young, wasn’t he around 50?
When i worked in Govt we had a significant amount of cases with him. He was a really excellent jurist for that venue
Graduated Law School at Creighton in 1994 which would make him 56-58
so sad
Who is this?
Judge Shirley. Try to keep up.
I’m late to the party and the search function on this blog is not working for me. What happened to Lewis Roca?
Merged and have a new name
Womble Bomble is the name or something less exciting like womble bond and Dickinson
good for morning laugh, thanks!
I am 100% calling them this from now on. Can we make it a thing like the Cry harder sis, the BK Hottie or Boyd ’13?
Only if you pronounce it like a character in a Monty Python sketch who has a very good friend in Wome by the name of Biggus Dickus.
Mesquite gonna Mesquite.
