I had something happen recently that I wanted to discuss with my friends here.

After a hearing, I prepared the order, got opposing counsel's approval, and then submitted it to the court. The order was rejected because of an unspecified problem in one paragraph. I read the order again, many times, compared it to the minute order, discussed it with opposing counsel, and could not find the problem. So I called the court and asked for more info. The response was to reiterate that there was a problem with one specific paragraph, but they would not/could not tell me what the problem was. The reason given was that they could not give "legal advice." I talked it over with opposing counsel again and still we couldn't find the problem. Ultimately, I rewrote the paragraph and resubmitted. I thought my revised language said the same thing substantively, but maybe it was a little clearer. The court signed off on the revised order, so we're all good now.

Now, to be clear, I'm not trying to call out this department or any of its staff, or to cause anyone any problems. However, I am genuinely curious if anyone else has run into a similar situation. Is it really "legal advice" for the court to tell me what they want the order to say? And let's say hypothetically that my revised order was rejected, what could I have done then? I don't have a problem with drafting my own order, but this whole situation was perplexing.

Quick question… After a trial, my client was assessed with jury fees. However, he's never going to pay me or the court. (In fact, he owes me a bunch of money already.) Am I going to have to pay the fees out of my own pocket, or is it the client's personal responsibility?

ADKT 0445 Yes, about time.
ADKT 0611 Pre grad in court? hell no, it is bad enough with baby lawyers (ones who have both graduated and are admitted) who are supervised by a senior firm lawyer. Who will my future client sue for bad advice and malpractice, the student, Boyd or?

But there is another, larger issue framed by the two ADKTs. Why doesn't our bar, who is supposed to represent our interests, notify and poll membership on issues that affect practice? Or file a bar brief supporting or opposing proposed rule changes?

I think it would be better to do away with mandatory bar membership and to allow a membership organization that advocates for its members. The ABA used to be that organization but now a days fails miserably in that role. SBN does not even pretend to represent the interest of the practicing bar.

Are Boyd grads that bad? I'm relatively new to practice in the area.

Most Boyd grads are okay, but Boyd '13 grads are exceptional for some reason. The stars aligned for that particular class.

Little help here. Client got a speeding ticket (92 mph in 65) I know we have a new online system to deal with "routine" tickets, but this one says a Court hearing is necessary. Any way to deal with this short of me wasting 90 minutes to go to the RJC?

If competency was grounds for removal from the Bench we could knock out a huge chunk of our bench. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pauline-newman-96-year-old-federal-judge-suspended/?intcid=CNM-00-10abd1h

We need an update on Telles. What is the latest on his plans to embarrass Metro and the DA’s office at trial in November?
