It is Thursday. That means Advanced Opinions day from the Supreme Court. Oh wait, there are no Forthcoming Opinions and the Supreme Court managed to put out one decision, a dismissal by the Clerk. Keep up the (non) work Gang of 7.

A dirty little secret in the NSC is that they take nearly the entire month of August off…

I have heard that this is true. That August is when they rotate clerks out so basically very little gets done in August. Imagine doing very little work 11 months out of the year and then taking an entire month off.

I hate Trump, but there's no reason to dump on him for the August recess / vacation. Particularly when the AC in the White House is getting shut down for renovations.

I like to have the carnations breakfast bars. Keep me regular before I go in front of Bullas.

Honestly wish Trump would run his mouth less and vacation more.

I went to go have breakfast after court and found the Courthouse Cafe has shut down. This makes me sad. I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned it yet.

It's sad, but I never really liked the food there. I liked the coffee shop that was on the corner just west of there for awhile but that one couldn't compete with Starbucks. I liked Eat, which isn't that far away if you're driving. City Center Café was okay. But really, when I'm done with court, I just drive back to the office and eat at my desk so I can keep the billing machine going.

What, you don't bill for breakfast? Must not be an insurance defense attorney

@9:40 City Center has been gone for a couple of years as has Quizno. A few places (sandwich and pizza) tried to make a go there, but now they have all abandoned ship as well.

I went shortly before it closed. For breakfast. Seemed like the pancakes and bacon were more of a "heat and serve" variety than something someone actually cooked. And now the place is no more.

I had an insurance company paying for my time once. I almost felt like the right thing to do was to double my time so that I could get fair pay for the time I spent. They sent me a several hundred page booklet detailing what they would and would not pay for (who would have thought that talking with another lawyer about case strategy is not a thing worth paying a lawyer for?). They required me to write out every miniscule task that I did on a matter during the day, with the amount of time I spent on that item. And then they found a way to move huge chunks of my bill into their no-pay category. After bill 3 we went back to the client and told them they'd have to pick up the shit the insurance company was trying to screw us on or get a new lawyer. I'd have to be in a pretty dire situation to work for those clowns full time.

Concerning the case where the teacher gets fired for viewing pornography in the presence of students, had he viewed it not in the presence of students would he have been somewhat insulated from the firing? Or would he still get fired because he viewed the material on a school computer?

Are you asking in case your firm gets a competent IT guy who checks the traffic on the server?
