Judge Ken Cory, who did not draw a challenger for the election this fall, might have demonstrated why yesterday. Fed up with the squabbling over the “Arson Puppies,” he ordered the parties to a settlement conference within 45 days and put a gag order on them in the meantime. He also suggested that the whole matter of deciding who gets to place the pups was probably not the best use of taxpayer resources when there are thousands of homeless people in our community. What do you think, was he right? [RJ; Las Vegas Sun]
Whether you’re a US Senator, a Nevada Supreme Court justice, or the most successful plaintiff attorney in Las Vegas, the place to be last night was the ribbon cutting for the Robert T. Eglet Advocacy Center. (We did a post on the new digs last fall with pictures.) In addition to Eglet’s firm, the building’s tenants will include Vannah & Vannah; Ralph Schwartz; Robert Lawson Investigations; and, eventually, Pisanelli Bice will leave Hughes Center to join the French Renaissance. [RJ]
The Clark County Commissioners approved an ordinance allowing medical marijuana dispensaries to go forward. The City of Las Vegas also took steps toward allowing dispensaries to open. [RJ; Las Vegas Sun; Fox5Vegas]
Since Lucy Flores is running for lieutenant governor, her seat in the assembly for district 28 is up for grabs. Turns out that only one person filed to replace her, Boyd grad Edgar Flores (no relation). The article says he passed the bar exam last year, but his name doesn’t come up on the State Bar site and there is no word on if he is practicing. [RJ]
It’s the time of year where the media focuses on the loss of workplace productivity due to the beginning of March Madness. But the Washington Post cites a survey of national office managers where only 11% of those surveyed said the tournament has a negative impact on productivity. Is the tournament a drain on productivity in your office?
Eight months without being listed on the State Bar site? Smells like he's got major C&F issues and isn't a lawyer. I showed up on the NV Bar's site within a day or so of the pass list being published. Others I knew with C&F issues that got resolved took a little while longer, so their admission date was different, but it didn't take more than a couple of months. So what is Edgar Flores hiding in his past that won't be vetted by voters in the 28th because, once again, it's just assumed that 28th + Hispanic last name = elected Democrat?
Reminds me of classic post-graduation question: can you call yourself a lawyer once you graduate law school? Or is it only appropriate after you pass the bar and are fully licensed?
If he couldn't pass the MPRE, that's even more reason why this guy shouldn't be an elected official. I knew mouth-breathers who only studied for it for maybe a couple of hours and took the test while hungover that had no problems passing.
Edgar Flores is listed on the July 2013 Bar Exam pass list.

Alternatively — no passing MPRE score.

It sounds like we're jumping to conclusions.
If we're going to jump to conclusions, I think we could use one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRxqY4wuTHw
I don't know about the office's productivity, but mine definitely suffers today. I have games streaming on my ipad under my desk with no sound on.
Our office shuts down today and tomorrow at noon and everybody goes to a bar to watch games and eat.
Good time for a vasectomy. http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/03/19/vasectomies-on-rise-during-march-madness/
Did Lucy Flores fail the bar? I think she graduated in May 2010 but her admission date shows 5/24/11, which means she passed the February 2011 exam.
She passed in February. I don't remember if she took it in July, seeing as she was in the middle of campaigning.
Who cares? Some of the brightest people I know did not pass first time.
Some of the dumbest people I know did not pass the first time.
Agreed.
Agreed.
The great thing about the law is that so long as you graduated from a law school and passed the bar at some point, you can be a lawyer!
It is great to hear people pursuing their dream and becoming successful.
