Sandoval says he doesn't want to be considered for the job. http://news3lv.com/news/local/sandoval-says-he-does-not-want-to-be-considered-for-supreme-court
I'm sure the same dirt that caused him to pass on running for Reid's senate seat caused him to take a pass on being considered for the Supreme Court seat.
He left a lifetime appointment (where he'd already been investigated and vetted) to become the governor of Nevada, and is currently the highest profile sane Republican governor. I think his aspirations lie in the Executive branch, not Judicial.
I doubt there's any dirt. He just refuses to be Obama's pawn against his own party in an election year. If one party wins the White House and the other the Senate, he will be a very viable moderate candidate is SCOTUS is something he's actually interested in. If he went along with Obama now he would not be confirmed, and his political career (as a Republican, anyway) would be over. He knows what he's doing.
I agree with 11:41 that he was already exhaustively vetted prior to his earlier appointment as a Federal Judge, so it is highly unlikely there is anything of significance that he is concerned will be revealed. I likewise agree that he does not want to be used as a pawn whereby the Democrats try to make the Republicans look bad and obstructionist for stonewalling the nomination even when the Democrats advance a nominee who is Republican, and therefore should be acceptable to the Republicans. However, I wonder if his advisers have informed him that once you reject an offer to be appointed, or even if you simply ask that your name be eliminated as a potential nominee after you learn you are being considered, this usually results in not being considered or offered the position in the future. As time passes, the reasons you rejected being considered will no longer be well-remembered or considered. It will only be noted that you rejected the earlier opportunity. And presidents and their advisers even feel and act this way when the earlier rejection occurred during the administration of a prior president of a different political party. It appears to be one of those un-written rules. One should never reject presidential consideration no matter how seemingly justified, in the hope they will receive a similar offer from a subsequent president. It simply doesn't occur. If he's made up his mind he never wants to be on the Supremes, that's fine. But he should not bank that someone like Cruz wins the presidency and then appoints him. Cruz and his advisers will be aware that Sandoval previously rejected the opportunity, and that he was someone acceptable to a liberal, lame duck Democrat president. Plus, the ultra-conservative Cruz would almost certainly still have the benefit of a Republican controlled Senate. On what planet would he be interested in nominating someone moderate who was acceptable to Obama? Instead, he is guaranteed to nominate very conservative judges. And if Hillary wins, she won't have Obama's last minute, election year desperation to find someone palatable to both sides. With four years at her disposal she would make an initial couple attempts to nominate a more liberal justice. If those attempts don't garner a majority vote from the Senate, I suppose she could turn to Sandoval, providing she's not put off by the earlier rejection. Now if Trump wins, who the hell knows.
I hope that historical pattern(of not getting offered after you rejected an earlier offer or earlier consideration) does not hold in this case, and that Governor Sandoval receives, and accepts, a future offer to serve. He is someone largely respected by both sides of the aisle, and you don't find that too often.
I think this will be the first time in history that absolutely no one will want to be nominated to be Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Intense scrutiny and attacks on your personal, political, and religious beliefs; and an all but assured no vote (either no vote taking place or you get too many no votes).
Kim Wexler: Hot or Lawyer Hot?
Get your mind out of your pants …
Get her pants out of your mind Saul.
Classic lawyer hot. But I can't get over the ponytail.
This is douchebaggery. If someone puts themselves out into the public eye, I can see how they become fair game. But there's never been a news article of blog post on her (I have no idea who she is, what she practices, or which firm she's with), so to just randomly solicit opinions on someone else's looks makes you an asshat.
Commenting on something you know nothing about makes you an asshat. Better call Saul.
And I say hot.
Hahahaha! Righteous indignation about a television character.
I'd argue that the actress who plays Kim Wexler put herself "out into the public eye."
2:02,
Kim Wexler is one of go-to litigators at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. She went to law school at the University of New Mexico with one of my good friends, Howard. I had her as opposing counsel once. She was aggressive, but very professional. She seemed to have a special rapport with DC Bulla. I too take great offense at the way she is being objectified by the OP on this thread. Very, very sexist.
I am a Boyd '13 grad. Everyone is smarter than me. Someday I wish I was as cool as a Leavitt or a Jimmerson.
And how about that blowhard, Atticus Finch? Is he full of himself or what? lmao
Vinny Gambini – Hot or Lawyer Hot?
Boyd '13 guy, you are officially as annoying as double kickstands guy and your posts are just as useless. We get that you are trying to repeat something so often that you hope it will stick.
The Boyd '13 thing is SUPER funny. And it is a thing. Sorry.
Also,Vinny Gambini is smoking hot.
It's a "thing" in your mind. But keep clinging to it. It seems to mean a lot to you.
Wexler is easy on the eyes and loves to drink that high end Tequila. Makes for a good night.
WTH is Wexler? And, who cares? Get a life.
Always suspected NewlyMintedAttorney was an easily offended SJW and now have no doubt. And Vinny was not hot but any mechanic turned star defense attorney that can pull Mona Lisa Davito certainly deserves all the respect Jerry Calloway can muster.
I am so confused. I suspect I have been working too hard and not paying sufficient attention to social media or something.
Exactly, cannot be jealous of anyone you never met. Hope I have a case against you.
They are ALL fictional characters. ALL OF THEM. Am I taking crazy pills?
Wexler is a fictional character from the AMC show "Better Call Saul". Atticus Finch is a fictional character from the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," later adapted to a motion picutre. Vinny Gambini is a fictional character from the popular film "My Cousin Vinny." As Rainier Wolfcastle (another fictional character) would say "That is the joke."
I think I smell toast. Maybe I am having a stroke.
