Will the Matt Addison mess diminish the draws of McDonald Carano partners and/or shareholders? How big of a financial impact should we expect this to have on the firm?

“Nevada attorneys at least 25 years old, with 10 years of legal experience, and 2 years of Nevada legal practice and residency were eligible to apply.”

Are there really any 15-year-olds who have passed the bar?

Department 26 has been made vacant by the retirement of Judge Gloria Sturman. The Commission nominated the following applicants to Governor Lombardo:

Pete has the perfect judicial temperment. Ask anybody who has ever tried a case with or against him. Don’t know him well personally, but big fan of our limited interactions.

…and, how will he be able to handle a civil case? They tend to be more difficult than a criminal calendar.

Just say “who’s gonna lose this motion for summary judgment NOT IT!” And then whomever says they are “not it” last obviously loses. This is a simple and effective analysis.

Pete is exceptionally bright, a quick study, and not lazy. He will be more than fine.

They could change the docket – it could easily be an all criminal docket. They already distributed Sturman’s probate case load to other judges.

There’s a NV attorney who was in law school at 15, I believe.

If so, impressive. But had they graduated, passed the Bar, and were they actively practicing at 15? If they were, I’d probably vote for them if they ran for a judgeship at 25 years of age.

Part of me thinks Hooge getting the appointment would provide looney entertainment on a scale we haven’t seen since Halverson. Another part of me thinks it would be a disaster.

They need to get him out a Bar Counsel. What if he did a good job as a judge? I think he might surprise everyone. Bar Counsel is a job nobody would want today. There was a time when we had good Bar Counsels–Rob Bare and David Clark. Sensible approach to discipline. On the other hand, Hooge worked really hard as Bar Counsel. So much to that job. I don’t know too many attorneys who would not stress out and get burnout with that position.

Stop it. Hooge will be a good judge.

Based on what, exactly? Because if comes down to experience in a courtroom, instead of pretend trials in front of 3 randos, Pete beats him hands down.

Abortion laws are bad for all women and the men who love them. Law enforcement and courts routinely have trouble deciding between a miscarriage and an action—namely because they are indistinguishable. (And before some weird anti-woman dude comes into the comments to say there are women fetuses: no there are not).

A woman is an adult. A girl is a child. A fetus can be female, but it is nether a girl nor a woman. I think that men who can’t understand basic terminology, not basic biology, should sit these policy decisions out.
