New Judges

  • Law

First, thanks for entertaining yourselves while we were busy billing this week.

Second, the RJ is reporting that yesterday, President Barack Obama nominated Jennifer Dorsey, a partner at Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, and Andy Gordon, a partner at McDonald Carano Wilson, to fill the seats of U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson and U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks, respectively.

Congrats and good luck to Jennifer and Andy. I hope the nomination process goes better for both of you than it did for Elissa Cadish

Both excellent appointments.

Zero chance these nominees get confirmed prior to the election.

If Obama wins, they'll get confirmed in a year or so. If Romney wins, neither one of these two gets confirmed and Romney will make new appointments some time next year.

Jennie Dorsey has that rare combination – really smart and also pretty hot. Not a lot of those. And if she gets confirmed, she'll also be powerful.

No shit they won't get confirmed before the election. That has more to do with the FBI investigation of the nominees that politics.

David Schubert was supposed to surrender this morning at 9:00 a.m. He did not show up.

Schubert is a badass.

I am worried about Schubert. Sometimes lawyers feel they have nothing else but their status as lawyers.

After reading the reaction to the bad call last night on MNF arising from a bad call by a referee who doesn't know/understand the rules, and a weekend of bad calls related to ignorance of the rules as well, it reminded me of all the discussions about mind scratching decisions reached by our beloved EDCR judges. Can't wait for the next election to see how the next wave of incompetence performs.

How many of your non-lawyer friends ask you who to vote for in the judicial elections because they know absolutely nothing about the candidates, nor should they. Election of judges insures that many qualified lawyers simply will not seek to be judges. But government lawyers or those who want a better retirement package will.

Fact – David Schubert has absconded to Mexico. His phone was "pinged" and it showed he was a quarter mile outside of Mexico.

Or, it means David's phone was 1/4 mile outside of Mexico.

Unlikely, as he flew to San Diego the day he was supposed to surrender.

Having spent a considerable amount of time in that part of Mexico, and assuming he is smart enough to stay out of Cabo and La Paz, if he returns alive and willingly after 12 months he should receive CTS and close out the case. Proof he did the whole year in TJ and he should get a reduction to DOC and his old job back.

Never mind. Schubert posted a picture of a Mexican beach to Facebook. See Dave. See Dave Run. Run, Dave, Run.
