Every now and then we get a slow news day and are looking for other topics to discuss. Someone suggested we discuss certain rules–as both a means of refreshing your memory about the rules and maybe sparking some conversation. As always, feel free to hijack the comments to discuss whatever else is on your mind, but also please weigh in with your thoughts on Nevada RPC 8.2, which could be applicable to anonymous comments on a legal blog:
Rule 8.2. Judicial and Legal Officials.
(a) A lawyer shall not make a statement that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge, adjudicatory officer or public legal officer, or of a candidate for election or appointment to judicial or legal office.
(b) A lawyer who is a candidate for judicial office shall comply with the applicable provisions of the Code of Judicial Conduct.

Cracking down on small town judge.
poor Wanker (no pun intended) she drives all over NV to dispense justice and then some small crap comes down on her…over what, $500? public reprimand is a bit much for that. she mustve goofed a few times or theyre just being harsh on her.
Wait a second… the order requires Judge Wanker to reimburse the dude $500, instead of requiring Nye County DC to disgorge it? Oh yeah, Ferengi Rule of Acquisition Number 1: Once you have their money, you never give it back.
Clearly you guys have never appeared in front of Judge Wanker. IMO she is vindictive, goes out of her way to demean Las Vegas attorneys coming into her jurisdiction, completely ignores plea deals, I have nothing good to say about her. I have no doubt she was out of line in whatever she got smacked for.
Compare this to Steve Jones–hard to justify going after Wanker for this small matter in the comparative grand scheme of things. She's a good judge.

Whether Wanker was right or wrong wasn't the issue to me. Just that it would seem to make more sense if the district court was ordered to give the money back, rather than Wanker being forced to reimburse him for it. I mean, if she shouldn't have cited him / jailed him for contempt / fined him, then the court doesn't have any right to the $500, right?

There are a couple younger guys who have been practicing a few years that look pretty good. Nick Portz, he's at the DA; David Menocal at DeCastroverde; and Adrian Karimi, I'm not sure where he's practicing but I have seen him at the RJC a few times. Frank Flansburg is alright, if you're into older guys.
There's also the MAC chef, I guess.

I was recently in an inns of court presentation and there was a bankruptcy trustee who presided over a mock meeting of creditors. It was the most entertaining presentation I have seen in over a year. I have been trying to figure out who it was but I came in late and he was talking to people afterwards. I vote for him.

Only to the extent that reducing the sum total of his legacy to "Obama rocks" or "Obama sucks" is degrading or embarrassing. I don't understand why you can't observe that Lawyer X is hot without it being implied that you're reducing them to that quality. I suppose we could preface all observations. "An excellent lawyer, mother/father, top of their class at Harvard, X is attractive." The nice thing about competence/achievement is that it continues to be competence/achievement whether anybody notices it or not. They don't hand out degrees at Harvard for hotness so if you get any gratification out of being hot (and you do) you're pretty much stuck with superficial opinions.
I've seen Melanie Thomas in pictures and in person, and she's HOT either way. Have you seen or heard her in a discovery hearing? Good stuff.

Am I the only one that finds this thread disgusting? It's one thing to say that attorney X is "hot" (because that's a compliment, and not intended to hurt anyone) but the remarks about who you find ugly and/or a "cuntasaurus" are truly disgusting. This reminds me of a few threads on the previous law blog, where it was common to read things like "she used to look better but her ass got huge lately." Why is this appropriate and/or funny?

Have to agree with all of the aforementioned comments surrounding Gina B. The woman is hilarious. She always has to be the center of attention. She is a joke.
You want to bash her legal skills? Have at it. Want to say she is a nightmare as an Opposing Counsel, blocks proceedings, makes stupid and frivolous arguments? Have at it. Want to go after the way she looks? Yeah out of bounds. People bashed Karen Ross (rightfully) for what she does not for what she looks like. Its not everyone on here against this woman; its the adults versus the 7th grade girls.

Speaking of sanctions, what is going on in Department 24, Judge Crockett and sanctions against attorneys. Anyone know anything about the huge sanctions against attorneys in Judge Crockett's court?
Saw him set aside a Default Judgment, set aside the service by publication (under an Order from Bixler) and sanction Plaintiff's Counsel $2500 for serving by publication where the Affidavit of Due Diligence showed 10 attempts to serve Defendant at home but no attempts to serve Debtor at work.
1:41 P.M. –$2500 seems steep for such a minor mistake but haven't there been worse or higher sanctions.
How many people here think 8.2 wouldn't withstand a serious 1st amendment challenge?

Seems minimally enforceable at best. How exactly does one comment "with reckless disregard" on the qualifications of our elected judiciary? The sheer fact that they're elected by Las Vegas voters calls into question their qualifications.
