We can also talk about what asshole attorneys we have dealt with. Lord knows, there is no shortage. Sam Schwarz is an ass, and he is a shitty lawyer, too.

I think I've only dealt with a handful of non-asshole opposing counsel. I've never dealt with a non-asshole out of state opposing counsel; I guess they figure they'll never see me again so they might as well go for the jugular.

One of the non-assholes I went against was downright meek, to the point that I felt bad for him. I looked him up the other day and he's now a middle school teacher. That probably serves him better.

12:01, i always believed that this profession is made for the "Type A" personalities who aren't afraid of confrontation. Those who try to enter our field without either trait usually don't last long..in my humble opinion

No, you are an asshole. Most attorneys, and some judges, are the most unethical, monocle pieces of shit I have ever seen in my life. Promise you, karma is a bitch.

I don't think 12:45 of 2:12 are saying different things. There's lots of assholes. If you're going to make a career out of this, you better get some thick skin.

I appreciate 3:17's point, but I don't think that applies uniformly to litigation, where lots of people interpret "zealous advocacy" to mean "if the other side wants it, I don't, if it makes the other side's day more difficult, it's necessarily good for my client, if I can turn a small discovery dispute into a sanctions motion, then maybe I can get the judge on my client's side," etc.

I recently had opposing counsel file a 3-day notice of intent to take default against me, when I had gotten a 2-week extension from the same person a week earlier (confirmed in writing). I cannot be certain whether this was the result of dickishness or incompetence, but either way, I obviously cannot trust that office ever again.

Some attorneys seem to think being an asshole = being an effective, zealous advocate for their clients. They also seem to think not being an asshole = being weak. I know at least one that uses being an asshole as a method to attempt to distract from the fact that he just sucks at being an attorney. He will just make up shit and falsely accuse you of saying things you never said. He has been sanctioned more than once. Burned a lot of bridges with his antics.

Most attorneys I deal with are not assholes. I am very easy to get along with–until you act like a dick. You get what you give.

I am professional to other attorneys, and they still treat me like shit. Attorneys treat you like shit when you have a good case, and you are smarter than they are.

If there has ever been any question that the federal "victim impact statements" system is completely fucked up, just look at Dennis Hastert's sentencing phase. Pled guilty to structuring cash withdrawals to avoid reporting requirements. Promptly had people paraded through the courtroom complaining of bad acts in the past. None of these people were victims of his deliberate attempt to avoid reporting requirements, yet all were allowed to testify.

From the website (much of which does not work)"Attorney Mark Coburn – Trademark Licensee". There is no Half Price Lawyers. Even the NV Sec. of State shows an LLC by that name with Status: default, with Adam Stokes name attached. Maybe Coburn is just using a DBA/fictitious name since he spent so much money on becoming the "Licensee"?

There is nothing necessarily wrong with dying without a will in Prince's case where he has no minor children, no wife, no greedy heirs and probably took care of all of his affairs through inter vivos planning.
