There’s not much else to link for news right now, but someone suggested we discuss the state of attorney billboard advertising in Las Vegas. While this has always been a special feature of our community, there are several billboards lately that raise the question of when is it okay to call yourself (in an unqualified) matter voted top lawyer or highest-rated injury attorneys. Anyone want to remind of the standard for attorney advertising? Is there a rule against billboard beards in attorney ads? Should there be?
Neither. Or both. I don't care, and I'm fine with that. My life is awesome. I enjoy my family, I enjoy my hobbies that relieve the stress of being a lawyer, and I enjoy the outdoors. As long as my kids are happy to spend time with me, and my spouse considers me a partner and friend, the viewpoints of random strangers are pretty meaningless in comparison.
Hearing a bit of hypocrisy from Not So Newly Minted. Other people's viewpoints are meaningless yet you post your opinion quite frequently. The implication is your opinion matters while the others do not. Hmmmmm? Maybe I am misinterpreting and I do typically enjoy your posts.
That's not actually true, they don't just give them out if you advertise with them. That said, if you have enough attorney friends around town who are willing to give you a good rating, it's not too difficult to get an AV rating. And they can't all be from the same firm, so if you have an AV rating, it at least shows that you're not a huge dick and you have some good networking skills.

In Nevada, lawyers are almost never involved in residential closings. The escrow and title functions are handled by the title company. Rarely is a lawyer involved except in some luxury transactions or in residential transactions involving more complicated issues (weird easements, water, land, mineral rights, etc.).

Anyone in the know on Snell & Wilmer; I heard they lost several partners in the last couple of months.

On this particular subject, yeah. My opinion matters. My spouse's opinion on this subject matters. Other peoples'? Not so much.

I'm guessing you're new in town? Come from East of the Mississippi? Or are you talking about large, commercial closings?
