Serious question here. As a younger practitioner, how important are these Meet Your Judges mixer?

Good question…serious answer. I go every year…except this one. The event has always been worthwhile but this year, the venue is NOT going to be worth anyone's time or money.

The event is usually held in a large hotel banquet room (Four Seasons). The single large room supports connecting and reconnecting with all in attendance. This year it will be at the mob museum. Two or three floors of individual rooms the largest of which is probably only 20 to 30 percent of the size of previous venues. NOT conducive to a productive experience.

The CCBA made a big mistake on this one. While the event has traditionally been great, if I were you I would wait until the next one at a larger, more productive venue.

Getting to know your judges and peers is a good idea. My opinion is that just won't happen at the Mob Museum.

I would expect that the event will be in the courthouse of the mob museum and not on all three floors. I've been to fundraisers there and they can fit quite a few people on that floor.

Why would anyone pay money to meet an elected official? It's your vote that got these people elected. They should be appreciative to meet you and as many of your friends that you would like to bring, at no charge.

I respectfully disagree with 9:02 a.m. The mixers at the Four Seasons are awful. The room is really loud and not conducive to talking with people. At the last one, Judge Ellsworth tried to talk to me and a few of my friends, and we could not hear her because she is so soft spoken and the room was so loud. We just laughed, smiled, and hoped she was saying something funny and not telling us how shitty our cases are.

Moreover, unless you got juice (or money to donate), I don't think the judges want to talk to you. I will not be going to these events in the future.

And it's a great way to figure out which judges like to party!

Will Gina Bongiovi be at the Mob Museum since she proclaims herself as a mob attorney?

Bravo to Judge Gordon! Finally we have a federal judge who will say to the government, "no, you cannot break the computers so you can pretend to be repairman and use that information to get a search warrant, and when I throw out the evidence in the first suite, you can't turn around and use the tainted evidence to try to support the search warrant on the other suites." Until recently, the only check on government abuse was the Ninth Circuit.

Wish federal judges would be more impartial, seems like most of them are pro-business, and anti-plaintiff.

I think the ninth circuit is a big enough check on government activity.

I wish state court judges would be more impartial, seems like most of them are pro-plaintiffs' attorney and not willing to grant summary judgment when it is warranted

Please. Look at cases that get reversed. MSJ that is granted for defense. I wish defense counsel would not dispute clear liability cases and then change there tune right before trial.

Judge Ramsey is gone fairly often, but no more so that Judge Hoeffgen. There are plenty of reasons to criticize how things are done in North Las Vegas muni court, but that is not one of them.

Family Court Judge Ken Pollock got booted from the bench because of that nasty article that he was out on leave or disability while campaigning. Has anyone heard whatever happened to former Judge Pollock. I heard that he has been on disability even though he lost the election. Is that true? What is former Judge Gonzalez doing now?

Judge Pollock is now enjoying life free from stress and is considering how to maximize his retirement.

The mere fact that Ross Miller, North Las Vegas Metro and the ever slimy Dave Thomas are behind the efforts to recall Ramsey make me strongly question the prospective validity of any claims against her which may be made.

Dominic Gentile is involved with the recall effort as well. Not sure if that changes your opinion. However, there is no doubt that Judge Ramsey's actions during her first term has resulted in just about everyone who works for the city wishing she is recalled/removed from office. These include city attorneys, police officers, court clerks, and/or anyone who has had to deal with her in any capacity.
