Job Tips: Succession Planning

The recent most Nevada Lawyer featured a small blurb about a free resource the State Bar of Nevada offers its members: a resource book called Succession Planning in Nevada. The guide, which was updated this year, “helps Nevada attorneys close their practice or plan for an unexpected medical crisis or death.” How many of you have considered what happens if you are suddenly unable to practice? Do you have a plan in place? Do those of you in firms even think about this or is this just something solos worry about? Do you have an actual succession plan in place? Do your partners, advisors, family members know your plan? What experiences have you had with this and what do you wish you would have known sooner?

This is the joy of being a government attorney. No succession plan needed. My co-workers will handle everything if I leave.

L. James lawfare penalty overturned on appeal. Finally. I don’t like lawfare from either party. I detest Adam Schiff but looking into mortgages years later. C’mon

Only the punitives overturned. Fraud judgment affirmed.

So who was defrauded? No one. The banks were paid in full and wanted more trump business.

So they stop the robber going out the door and seize the money, that’s not a robbery?

Didn’t the banks come out and say they were paid in full so no fraud, and said that they would do business with DJT in the future?

@11:40
That makes no sense. Who or what are you talking about?
If it is about fraud, you are clearly not an attorney and have no concept of hornbook law on fraud or robbery

The statute at issue doesn’t require reliance on the fraudulent conduct.

This is a bullshit take. Why does Schiff get a pass, how is this even lawfare?

Federal SOL on Wire Fraud / Bank Fraud is 10 years. Schiff can suck it the fuck up like every other white collar criminal out there.

How are you all dealing with elderly parents in poor health? It’s becoming more of issue lately. Feel like I’m stuck having to take care of them while also taking care of my kids and trying to make money while I’m in my prime.

Are they in Nevada? You can reach out to the Aging and Disability Services Division to see what help may be available. Other states have similar entities.

@1:30 what are you even asking? Is this a serious question? This is part of life, bro. Suck it up, be a man, and take care of your family.

This is a genuine burden. Fortunately when my mother required aid she was able to afford a nursing facility. But it was $8,000 a month and she was miserable. I went to visit her three or four times a week and did her laundry and grocery shopping for her, but if she couldn’t have afforded the facility (which I suspect most can’t), it would have been my full-time job for six years until she finally passed. There are no good solutions for end of life care in the States, either the facility is outrageously expensive or it’s atrocious. There is very little in between. Rather than deprive my descendants of $600K in future assets so I can be miserable, I’ll likely sign a DNR and take matters into my own hands.

Ruling is now out on Alina Habba’s interim appointment to be DNJ interim USA. The district court found her appointment to be unlawful. Thoughts on any correlation between these facts and the current interim USA situation in DNV?

Shocker. More like a(nother) nothing-burger.

District Court judge (Obama appointee) rules against a Trump Appointee. BFD. . . . .

Due to accident issues, it already happened to me. I had friends ready to step in and to help out. It was a godsend. Be good to your friends and hope they will be good to you.

It’s too bad that Michelle and Sigal’s tiresome comments stink up this blog. They may drive away the reasonable people who come here to have intelligent conversations.

While I hate those comments as well, this blog is the last place to have reasonable and intelligent conversations. It’s less Lyceum and more Two Minutes Hate for whom or whatever the chosen target of the day is.

Comment on Our Nevada Judges about DDA (and almost judge) Cole : Dude why in the world is that deputy lost on her cellphone during sentencing? Super inappropriate. Does she know shes there to protect?🤔and not her phone. Her phone seems awfully safe.

The Probate Commissioner was angry that day, my friends – like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty seconds into the hearing, and suddenly the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers before me. I tell you, these officers were ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, the officers let out a great bellowed Miranda rights. I said, “Easy, big fellas!” And then, as I watched them struggling to arrest me, I I could see directly into the eye of the officers. …Diane came up to me, threw her arms around me, and kissed me. We both had tears streaming down our faces. I never saw anyone so beautiful. It was at that moment I decided to tell her I was not a Nevada licensed attorney!

As a member of the bar for the last 15 years, I, too, am certain that bar numbers in the 15,000 range must not exist.
