Holiday Party Post 2014

  • Law

It’s that time of year again where tradition dictates that firms have a holiday party to make everyone uncomfortable, or not. What is your firm doing this year in terms of a holiday party? Will it be at Sage again? A dinner cruise on Lake Mead? An awkward soiree at one of the partner’s homes in Anthem? Will there be gifts? Are you required to show up? Will you already have your bonus or will Santa deliver your lump of coal at the party? Will it be a potluck in the office with a white elephant gift exchange? What is Eglet doing (and has it already happened)? Will there be an open bar? Will there be hook-ups? And most importantly, will there be photos?

Kind of an interesting website I heard about where you can rate sitting judges.

I'm just taking the staff out to dinner for our Christmas party. Nothing too fancy, maybe Maggiano's or something similar. I'll give out bonuses at the dinner. We're a small office, so it's always a low key situation.

Thankfully, our party is just lunch at a restaurant on the strip tbd.

Our party is dinner at a nice off strip restaurant, your table choice at these deals can make or break your night

Going the other way….I have it on good authority that everyone at LSC has been given a 60 days term notice. So, probably no party there.

Any more info you can provide? Is LSC going to merge with another firm, or are they getting bought out? I have a litigation matter against LSC going right now and I'm wondering how it will be affected by this.

Doesn't a merge or buy out seem unlikely if every single employee got a 60-day termination notice (which is only a rumor at this point)? It seems to portend something more extreme like a Chapter 7 bankruptcy or a partnership dissolution or something.

That's why I wanted to get more information. If he literally meant "everyone" then yeah, it sounds like LSC is really imploding. But if it was just support staff or associates who are getting the shaft, then it could still be a buyout. I just can't imagine LSC completely going under.

Is this just a rumor with no teeth, or can the person who stated this provide some details? The use of the term "everyone" sounds like nonsense. Details, please, if this is actually true.

This did not happen. 1:04 probably should have disclosed that this "good authority" doesn't actually work at the firm.

Either way, don't apply for a position at LSC. LOL

Here are your 9 finalists. Spoiler alert: all three judges who turned in their applications on day 1 are still in the mix. http://www.nevadajudiciary.us/index.php/applicants-page

Dept. 1 Hardy, Tao and Smith. Maybe Kirby Smith of Lionel Sawyer isn't so sad about the layoff notices after all ….

If LSC would have hired me at OCI, I would have gone there in a second. Here's to unanswered prayers.

Yeah, screw that. Sure, I'd have been terminated with 60 days notice. But I would have also been making bank during all that time.

There was no 60 days notice. No merger, no buyout, just some partners offered jobs. Doors closing by January.

Who would have guessed that LSC, such a pillar of the legal community for over 40 years, would crumble like a house of cards….way to go managment!

That's what happens when the rain makers don't make it rain anymore, but still want equity.

We're getting an afternoon party out of the office. Someone I know told me they thought that was cheap, but while it's probably cost savings for the firm, it's also a lot more convenient than, say, Saturday night at some restaurant or ballroom. I've got no gripe.

I got married here this past October. All I can say is WOW. We were actually in the side room, which is smaller and a fabulous alternative than the larger spaces available.

LSC suffered a top heavy "retirement" that just made no sense. This is why the big guns left long ago. But you have to give it up for Sam, a gentleman warrior not to be repeated soon. If you never saw him in action, you missed it. If you did, you know what I mean. Job apps are flying on the QT
