It’s a good thing Fiore’s trial isn’t televised, otherwise my productivity would suffer. It will be a parade of interesting witnesses, including the widow of Alyn Beck (I know her and she will come off as very sympathetic and poised). She is the one I feel the most sorry for, even more so than the people Fiore (allegedly) stole money from. To lose your husband in the prime of life is bad enough, but to have a grifter like Fiore cash in on it is just stomach churning.

The hearing on the City of Las Vegas’ motion to dismiss in the Mormon Temple lawsuit was originally scheduled for next Tuesday, October 1. It’s now been reset to the 10th, in chambers. There will be no hearing to watch. Judge Israel probably has enough sense to know this is a high profile case.

Quite to the contrary, Israel often will move cases to Chambers so that no one can see how little he really understands about the case.

I mean, they stipulated to a rescheduling, and he reset it to the same day as the Motion to Intervene, so it’s not all that surprising.

The fact that Israel hears frivolous motions but relegates dispositive motions with complex issues to his Chambers Calendar is pretty telling.

He does not have to ask insightful questions or make any pronouncements from the bench that will show any grasp of the issues. Tough motions go on his Chambers calendar and come out with Minute Orders that say “Motion Granted” or “Motion Denied.” Someone pointed out last week that nuanced orders with alternative forms of relief are often met with granting or denying of the Motion without any specification of what specifically was granted.

No. Judge Israel just doesn’t do anything in person anymore.

I’m admittedly just a not too bright divorce lawyer. Can anyone give me a summary of the case you were all discussing yesterday where the law firms were getting sued. I’d read it myself but I’m listening to the case before me where the judge is shining his awesome wisdom on some poor pro se.

Slew of BK firms doing what they do. Self dealing, setting up conflicts of interest and making it fucking rain.

“Hip-Hop Lotto Ticket” or tell me without telling me that you are a big firm out of town lawyer who knows nothing about the jury pool. What an absolutely stupid thing to say. Argue about the dollar amount if you wish, but don’t insult every casino and service worker in this city.

Out of state counsel will also almost certainly mispronounce Nevada in front of the jury. These people that hire out of state counsel crack me up.

this same out of state lawyer and his same client were both recently sanctioned for deposition shenanigans in a different case against the client.

Unfortunately there is basically one firm that has its fingerprints on all of this stuff.

I’m out of the loop, I guess. I just got a call from a random PNC, and was going to tell him to “go call ___”. Would this One Firm show up on Google?

CCSD blames “unanticipated increases, such as litigation and cybersecurity expenses” for a potential budgeting shortfall. Maybe CCSD shouldn’t have allowed teachers to abuse special ed kids to the tune of $60 million in settlements, and shouldn’t have paid $70k to keep public records away from the public, and shouldn’t have paid Lord only knows how much in ransom to recover the systems after absolutely an infuriatingly display of piss-poor security and response.

Not to mention, the allowance of an exiting superintendent to spend untold amounts in raises and bonuses to his cronies, 5 minutes before he walked out the door.

Homie should’ve stayed fired.

They also allow bus drivers with multiple at-fault on the job collisions and past DUIs to continue to drive school busses, apparently, causing more wrecks. The whole district is ran my incompetence
