Judge Bell is kicking ass. She is reviewing chief judge complaints now after returning from a long week. She is the best.

Moving and shaking in the state senate. Senate Majority Leader Kelvin Atkinson to resign amid a federal plea deal for misappropriation of campaign funds. Sen. Nicole Cannizzaro is poised to become the state's first female senate majority leader. https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/senate-majority-leader-kelvin-atkinson-to-resign-amid-federal-charges-of-misappropriating-campaign-funds

This is why it's important to choose leadership carefully, folks. You now have a first-term Senator as a Majority Leader. I think the world of Nicole, but as a Republican, I'm going to be very interested in what happens this session.

You will not read it until the information/indictment is unsealed. However this is a testament to the scumbags in the AUSAs who think that sealing does not apply to them and that it is OK to leak the information the Jeff German or the Indy. If you or I violated a sealed case, we would be hauled in front of the Court. For the USAO, it is just another day of the rules not applying to them.

11:38, what makes you think the source of the news was the USA's office rather than from fellow legislators who were informed of this earlier today?

Because this is not a one time thing. This happens with AUSAs all of the time. Informations are sealed. Newspaper has the story days before it is unsealed. Defense did not leak it. Did the Clerk's Office leak a sealed case? Not likely. AUSAs leak it to generate publicity and make their bona fides. And I was not on the inside of that office at one time and can tell you that that is the practice. You feel untouchable when you are there.

I attended Supreme Court arguments yesterday. Two observations: 1. the Las Vegas court is hideous, and 2. Newly minted Justice Silver is not afraid to ask cranky questions.

"Trump went to Penn. He is smarter than Cadish."

This is a joke, right? Because we know that Trump's achievements are the result of merit and not the position and business he inherited, right? Trump is of very average intelligence.

Silly Alexis. Intimidating or dissuading witnesses should only be done by professional, via Twitter. Preferably by coded references to their parent.

A bit random, but does anyone out there have that LCB-produced annotated law library that is advertised without fail on the back of the bar magazine? If so, are the annotations worth a damn?

I find the annotations to be of generally better quality and completeness than anything West or Lexis puts out–and a much better value, too. The annotations are prepared by the Nevada Legislative Counsel. They do a much better job of tracking relevant case law when statutes are recodified (think change in NRS section number) than any of the others do, so in that respect they are much more complete.

My only gripe with the LCB annotations is they tend to be several years behind on the most recent case law, though I suspect that may have more to do with the publication of the Nevada Reports being several years behind.
