Hit the road!
Oh look, it's keyboard symbol guy.
aka……?
Where can I take a class on dot matrix?
Woah, anyone else see the Richard Harris billboard "More Lawyers Less Sleaze?" Does that seem…..targeted to anyone else?
Meh, it's advertising.
Some lawyers advertise themselves as super successful litigators who drive really expensive cars, other lawyers use funny sayings and cute puppies, whatever.
The funnier advertising trend to me is the dick measuring of how many millions have been won.
millions monthly!
tens of millions!
hundreds of millions!
over 1 billion!
As someone who worked at The Powell Firm, sleaze is apt.
@11:23a – I thought the EXACT same thing. Seems very specific.
11:23-Even though any semblance of dignity has been extinct from lawyer advertising for decades, that slogan is particularly troubling even by these largely unregulated standards of today.
Although he's trying to be clever and relatable, and identify with what a lot of people already think of lawyers, it's still a very troublesome slogan. He basically represents(although he would defend it, presumably, by claiming he was trying to be humorous, as opposed to specifically factual) that almost all other lawyers are dominated by illegal and unethical behavior, and that he is as well but to a lesser extent. After all, he says he has "less sleaze" not "no sleaze."
He apparently wants to be edgy, and have people discussing his slogan, and, unfortunately I and others took the bait. And mostly, I assume, he wants the slogan to be successful and attract clients.
I hope any temporary bump in income is worth the loss of reputation. I always had a pretty high opinion of him as a credible and dignified P.I. practitioner. But now I feel quite differently.
It's a shame, but there is always a lot more focus on the negative than the positive. It can take 20 years of sweat, labor and intense sacrifice to build a good reputation, and sometimes only one questionable act of decision to destroy that reputation so carefully built and nurtured over the decades.
12:22, basically I agree with your post but must point out one thing: "Dignified personal injury lawyer" appears to be an oxymoron.
Real underwhelmed seeing her in practice. Also question her ability to remain impartial. Will be looking to who the other options for that department are come November.
Based on the quality and ethics of the plaintiffs' bar in Nevada justice could never be this cheap. Justice here costs 33%, 40% and 50% (and that's after cutting a nice check to your favorite doctor). Justice must yield millions so that more justice can be done via large homes, sports cars, and private jets. Low value cases do not promote justice..

Rick Harris who was partners with Randy Mainor and the shop where Nancy Quon made her name. Careful hurling that rock from your residence made of glass Rick.
As far as Sisolak appointing Maria Gall to Dept.9, I thought the vacancy was to be filled by election this Fall, with that vacancy recently being added to the ballot. In fact Ganz, Leavitt and Morton have already signed up to run, and the deadline for filings is about July 22.
So, does this mean Gall, although appointed, will need to sign up and win the election in order to retain the seat?
If the answer is yes, and she somehow loses, that would be a real shame and it brings to mind a couple situations which have occurred over the years:a successful practitioner, who built their practice over like 20 years, accepts appointment to vacancy, and the election is just a short period later and they failed to hold the seat.
In fact, I think Atkins and Bailus only held their appointed seats for a relatively short period before being voted out.
Will Family Court Dept. A also be via interim appointment pending the Fall election? So far only Lynn Hughes has signed up. Real good name as many voters will assume he is female. To that point, he should absolutely NOT put his middle name on the ballot.
You described the correct timeline. She was appointed and is thus required to run for the next election, which happens to be in a few months. I can't recall whether this requirement derives from statute or the Nevada constitution. I'm hoping she's able to keep her seat. she'll be a great judge
If Lynn Hughes gets appointed, I hope he does better than the last two appointments. Forsberg is so emotional on the bench, it's impossible to litigate a contested matter in front of her without her losing it. Gibson was just abusive to everyone, attorneys and litigants alike, until he went back to the dungeon. Let's hope the third time's a charm.
Imagine the pay cut Maria Gall is taking! A high percentage of attorneys couldn't live on what a District Court Judge makes. She will easily be one of the more high-credentialed District Court judges in the State based on her academic and career experience. And yet, there's a better than average chance she gets knocked off by someone for whom the position will mean a pay raise. This is Trevor Atkin all over again.
@1:41 – no joke! I just googled her and she's got a damn good resume. I think you're right though…unfortunately.
She seems qualified based on her career but let's not get ahead of ourselves and say she is qualified based on her academic experience. Kentucky law is not a good school.
I'll probably vote for her based on her career experience. She's clerked at the district court level so she has at least some trial courtroom experience, she has been a law professor, and she has survived biglaw. Seems like a good fit for a civil docket.
I'll take Ganz.
Real underwhelmed seeing her in practice. Also question her ability to remain impartial. Will be looking to who the other options for that department are come November.
I’ve seen her in practice and she was top tier excellent. Very hard disagree.
Lynn Hughes is male. Had a case with him. That is an easy no.
Don't know where 3:12 got those ideas about Maria Gall but thats way, way off base. She is an excellent attorney and about as fair a person to deal with as there is.
Hard no on Gall. People who are commenting are apparently resume readers who have never encountered her in practice.
Absolutely yes on Gall.
Talk to anyone that’s worked with her and it’ll become a hard no.
I have litigated against Gall and she was very reasonable. Extensions, professional courtesy etc. Nice to have someone who knows complex civil lit on the bench. Tired of bad judges costing my clients money.
I have litigated against Gall and it is a hard no. And I understand that we all develop some animosity at times with opposing counsel, but hopefully we can learn to differentiate standard contentiousness in litigation from bad apples. She is a bad apple.
6:39 am and anyone else curious can ask away! Strong yes!
Thoroughly disagree with 8:20am. Not my experience at all. Very professional when litigating against her and very effective.
@455 got beat by Lynn Hughes in a single case, I am guessing. I have had many cases involving Lynn and unequivocally think that he would make a great family court judge.
@455 Lynn Hughes man. man=bad. No judge.
Glad you're part of the legal profession.
I'm not for her or against her yet. I know Ganz, but which Leavitt are we talking about, and who is Morton? The only Morton I ever knew was Mort Galane and I doubt it is him LOL.
the same leavitt who ran for justice of peace a few years ago. James Dean i think is his name. ran a nasty campaign against Graham who ultimately won.
and the same leavitt who went crazy, started behaving like a nut around the courthouse, and then eventually tried to kill himself.
Yes, James going by "Jamie" Dean on the ballot
Yeah, he'd be a real picnic . . .
Why did a partner with Claggett leave to become an associate with a billboard attorney? I heard there is a story there.
Who left?
Was it Stephen Lewis? Believe he previously worked for Van Law Firm. Wonder where he went?
He was with Sgro went to Claggett and is now with Eric Roy.
Yep there is a story.
He worked for both Sandy Van and Eric Roy?
Turns out some firms have interior cameras.
Lewis has worked for Sandy Van, Sgro, Claggett and quite a few other firms along the way.
2:29 PM-James Dean Leavitt running nasty campaign against Graham? Excuse me. They dug up some nonesense that Leavitt had an accident years ago in another state. Just the opposite.
Okay, Jamie
Anyone else get a blast email that Peter Isso is willing to give them $1000 a referral no matter the value of the case. NRPC anyone?

Tell me you don’t know the ethical rules without telling me you don’t know the ethical rules.
Agree w 8:21
Let's be honest, we all know the ethical rules aren't stringently followed. But it is a different level of dumb to blast an email like this that so blatantly is in violation of the rules.
Wait? It's a violation of NRPC to pay another attorney a referral fee? That's crazy. I'm sure it's not a referral fee but a fee to reimburse that attorney for the "reasonable cost of advertising or written or recorded communication permitted by these Rules" just like paying for a lead from a lead service right?
What is the rule violation. You can split fees with attorneys as long as it is in writing.
Isso referrals-Is this for real? Really. Aren't referrals for criminal and family law cases prohibited?
The client has to approve of the fee sharing arrangement in writing.
@9:28 – contingency fees for criminal or family law cases are prohibited.
Also, what fee is earned the moment the client signs the retainer and pays, with no work being performed?
@12:21p – if it's a fixed fee and the retainer provides that it is nonrefundable and the fee is reasonable, then the funds are earned upon receipt and don't even have to go into the IOLTA. I know a few attorneys in town who do criminal and family, charge a fixed fee for their services, never do anything hourly, and don't even have an IOLTA. It blew my mind. The State Bar counsel did an article about it in 2009. Just google "state bar of Nevada non-refundable fee" and you'll see the link to the PDF file.
Contra, unsigned State Bar counsel article from September 2021, stating "fees are unearned until the work is performed," barring nonrefundable fees, and requiring IOLTA deposits.

4:31 nailed exactly what I was going to post.
This is 12:21. Thank you 2:03 and 4:31 for the professional and informative responses. Either one of you could have criticized me for not knowing that information was out there, but didn’t. It is refreshing for a change! I’ll take a look at both.
Got the same. Maybe I will refer some traffic tickets for $1,000.
