Do we know, or get to know, who applied for the ADR/Discovery Commissioner Commissioner position formerly held by Chris Beecroft (RIP)? The job posting closed on Feb. 27th

No. They are being scarily secretive about the process.

There were something like 52 applications which they will narrow down, conduct interviews, and then pick three top candidates presumably. But yes,
very quiet but there are people who are in the know. Just not on this blog.
If anyone has information to share, please do.

Perhaps they should stop being so secretive and let the people know how the judiciary is (s)elected.

I worked in rural Nevada for several years. Without a doubt small town DAs and judges use bail to punish and extract settlement. I always though it was extremely dishonest to say "plead guilty and we'll agree to OR release."

Especially when court is only held once every two weeks. I think some outliers in Clark County do either cash bail or 10 times cash bail for a bond.

I think Ayres gets the Washoe seat. However the Keller nomination is f**king baffling. One of the dirtiest members of the USAO. Has never set FOOT in State Court in Nevada. And yet he is one of the three finalists for the seat? Absolutely baffling. Who is on this Commission?

Watching the "War Machine" closing arguments live on Ch. 8 stream. The ADA seems to be doing a good job, although I am not a criminal guy.

10:29, Keller's nomination is not baffling in the slightest for anyone who has ever dealt with a hiring committee of this type. One or more members of the committee may have one or two candidates they prefer. They then insulate that person or persons from competition by also nominating someone they know the hiring authority won't seriously consider over their favored candidate(s). Another unfortunate result is that more qualified people can be kept off the slate precisely because the hiring committee knows the hiring authority will select that person over their preferred candidate(s). Committees are a terrible way to hire people.

I wasn't one of the 13, but I've been on both sides of these kinds of hiring committees. If you think this kind of thing doesn't happen, you're naive.
