Not law related, but Elizabeth Thompson of the Nevada Independent drew universal ire for some fairly bizarre comments she made, re: Jeff German in the Nevada Independent newsletter. The RJ staff went absolutely bonkers on her on Twitter (justifiably IMO). Even more strange, Ralston's reaction was essentially, "Meh, we're all human."
Thompson sends out a newsletter whose standard glib tone is a distinctive Gen X mix of cynicism, sarcasm and snark. The older portion of Gen X is now having grandchildren. How this tone endures in writing, especially professional writing, is a mystery. It is especially prevalent in newsletters, blogs and social media from otherwise respectable media outlets. E. Thompson at the N.I. certainly isn't the only culprit. When someone writes like that consistently, this kind of disaster is almost inevitable.
She did not really say that much. As an editor she should have backed up her opinion with an example instead of just a broad generalization. The outrage and attacks from people that are supposed to investigate and then broadcast the news (facts) might make people wonder about their career choice.
It was a despicable original post. She said that she would address the allegations. She came out with a non-apology response that was entirely tone deaf to the entire situation.
I didn't take her comments as a slam on JG, but rather a shot at the RJ which definitely is OTT on the coverage and sainthood petition. I doubt JG would approve.
He clearly had a friend/family member or his lawyer deactivate his accounts, so as to prevent DMs and tags of his pages and to prevent them from being used against him further.
Would FB take the account down given the murder charge of a high profile victim? Think so since they act as censors and police accounts. Telles's atorneys could have suggested taking down social media and a family member could have done or even an attorney/staff on his behalf.

Happy Monday to Victoria Seaman, Plaintiff, and Michele Fiore, Defendant! Case No. A-22-858925-C, the most exciting tort case in Las Vegas. This case has it all: Assault, Battery, a broken finger, conspiracy by the City of Las Vegas, hair-pulling by the candidate for Nevada Treasurer.
30. Councilwoman Fiore grabbed Councilwoman Seaman by the hand pulling, jerking, twisting, and breaking Councilwoman Seaman’s finger in a violent manner.
31. Councilwoman Fiore attempted to throw Councilwoman Seaman to the floor by her hand.
32. Councilwoman Seaman managed to pull her hand free and escape from Councilwoman Fiore for a moment. Councilwoman Seaman believed the attack was over and she might be left alone, but she became fearful and knew the attack was not over when Councilwoman Fiore tried to grab her again.
33. Councilwoman Fiore grabbed Councilwoman Seaman by the hair and violently yanked her head backwards throwing her to the floor, where Councilwoman Seaman was left alone.
34. Councilwoman Fiore did not stop to see if Councilwoman Seaman had suffered any serious injuries due to the attack, but rather she fled the scene of the attack and immediately
went to Mayor Goodman’s office.
35. Councilwoman Seaman was extremely physically and emotionally distraught after the attack. She was shaking, in pain, and in a state of shock. Despite the pain and being in a state of confusion and disbelief, Councilwoman Seaman managed to get up and seek help.
36. Councilwoman Seaman went to Mayor Goodman’s office to inform her that she had been attacked by Councilwoman Fiore, a fellow colleague and member of the City Council.
37. When Councilwoman Seaman arrived at Mayor Goodman’s Office,
Councilwoman Fiore slammed the door to the Mayor Goodman’s office in her face.
Where else would you go? The Mayor's office has been the seat of wrongdoing for decades… like spending $200,000 to build an observation deck to view the "Las Vegas Arches" which no one wants to see anyway!
This just seems like political nonsense timely filed (and bumped on this blog, complete with case no.) for the greatest political impact. None of know what happened in truth and I am not some Fiore apologist. She is what she is.
In this circus, the truth is really not relevant. Maybe Michele Fiore body slammed Victoria Seaman by her hair, maybe she didn't. Who knows. Who cares. The only thing that matters is the unassailable absurdity of the parties.
Who told Victoria Seaman it was a good idea to file this Complaint?
I can't wait to read the inevitable Motion to Dismiss, not so much for the legal argument, but for, as the kids say these days, "the tea."
re: Seaman
"Her ten years of formal education and training in esthetics" (from her website) is certainly credential enough to run the City of Las Vegas. Don't you think?
"Her ten years of formal education" Does she count kindergarten and nursery school towards the ten years? So that would mean she completed school through the eighth grade?
Sheesh, tuff (damned cynical) crowd here. Do y'all think Seaman broke her own finger? Fiore and her extra pounds really need to be slapped with a significant judgment. I know this is Vegas, but come on, can we draw the line at physically assaulting each other at least?
Never mind … of course we can't. I forgot where I was for a second.
The only harm that happens here is to Seaman and her political career. Both the RJ article and the lawsuit make her seem weak and whiny.
Prediction is that nothing happens to Fiore and she rides the red/pink wave to a Statewide Treasurer seat.

There was a comment last week that was taken down that I thought raised fair commentary which are departments that appear to be poorly served by their law clerks. Department 28 is putting out wacky rulings by Minute Order that might be the product of judicial laziness as much as poor law clerking. The comment last week pointed out Department 29. What other departments are you seeing decisions that appear to be either judicial laziness or bad law clerking? (And no I do not think law clerks are immune from commentary).
Happy Monday morning!

Tried finding a copy of Thompson's letter. Found the apology but not the letter, any place I can look it over?

Any generation whose ethos was formed by Reality Bites should be kept away from power.

10:19 I'm sorry that your ethos was formed by a dumb movie from when you were young. Mine was not. Sincerely, Gen X
@4:18 – For real. Let your ethos be formed by an awesome movie. Still quoting Tommy Boy at least once a day.
Telles has taken down his social media accounts. What does this mean?
He really does not have internet access now or in the foreseeable future correct? They are kind of useless for him so it does not mean anything?
Given that he is incarcerated, who could have, or would have taken them down and why?
He clearly had a friend/family member or his lawyer deactivate his accounts, so as to prevent DMs and tags of his pages and to prevent them from being used against him further.

I want to note, for the record, that posting the case number is excellent law blog etiquette. Thank you, 11:18 AM.
11:18, I'd recommend you for OCS if it wouldn't be such a damn waste of a fine infantry man (thanks for the case number)
This town is such a delicious freak show.

I am more interested in who represents Fiore. JG anyone?
My prediction is that Craig Mueller represents Michele Fiore. I have no inside info. 100% speculation.
re: Seaman
"Her ten years of formal education and training in esthetics" (from her website) is certainly credential enough to run the City of Las Vegas. Don't you think?
1:43,
With those credentials, she should have run for Treasurer.
"Her ten years of formal education" Does she count kindergarten and nursery school towards the ten years? So that would mean she completed school through the eighth grade?
2:00 pm – the quote refers to her "formal education and training in esthetics." Not to her grade school through high school education.
Fiore has put on some pounds but is still hot. I'd love to show her my rifle.
"Some" pounds?
