I saw an article yesterday about a new class action against lumber liquidators filed by Callister's office for giving people cancer. How does that yahoo get these seemingly great cases? And does anyone know who Mitchell S. Bisson is? Every time I see something involving Matt, this guy is on it as well.

Your question presumes Callister is a yahoo. Many would disagree. Unorthodox? Maybe. But he'd got some litigation chops and most of the judges take him seriously.

Anyone can file a class action with a single named plaintiff. If you want the case, find your own plaintiff and fight the other plaintiffs' attorneys to be appointed as class counsel.

Definitely a mistake to underestimate him. He knows all the right people in all the right places. Maybe Bisson is the man behind the curtain?

I agree with 8:58 – callister is very smart and while he is eccentric it's a mistake to underestimate him

It's an even bigger mistake to misunderestimate him.

Thursday night's CCBA "Meet Your Judges" Mixer was a huge success. Most of the judges attended and the attendance was quite large. Lots of great food and networking opportunities for all.

You must be one of the people sponsoring/running it. The venue was awful. Crowded and hot. As for attendance, there were a fair number of people there, but it appeared to me to be mostly the older guard.

The Governor seems to be parading around over his nonsense tax increase claiming it will help education. What it will do is stop companies from coming to Nevada and opening up jobs. Great that our kids will be so smart, but there won't be any jobs for them thanks to this crap legislation.

80% of Nevada already voted down a gross receipts tax. The public understands economics better than the Governor and the legislature.

The Governor's getting off way too easy here. The people and the media should be all over him and the legislature for such nonsense.

And $500 a year for a business license for a corporation??? Nobody will ever again set up a Nevada corporation and just about every current corp will move out of state. $500 times zero = zero, Mr. Governor. Great job. Stop posing for photos at schools. Many of these kids' parents won't have any jobs thanks to you.

If you can't afford $500 you should not open a business. So sad to lose your crappy business that can't pay $500. Boo hoo hoo. Maybe we will rank above 49th in the country for money management with an educated population.

11:23 – The 11:16 poster is right. You're missing his/her point. Your view is short-sighted. You're only looking at one person. That one person might not have a choice since that person's entity is already set up in NV. NV is a hub for business entities. Nobody outside of NV will ever use a NV corp again. They'll all go to other states. That costs NV a lot of money. You missed that. [To be clear though on what should happy, those who think they should be using a corp should instead use a Nevada LLC anyway, so maybe some of these people will realize that, but I doubt it.]

Unless the NV corp can sing and dance, there's no longer a reason to ever set one up when you have so many other options.

11:23 here. Nevada is a great state for businesses for several reasons. First, no income tax. Second, some of the best laws for director liability (otherwise called avoiding liability), which is why you see so many shareholder suits here. The problem with Nevada and why businesses don't move here is two fold. First, education sucks so relocating your company here is tough to pitch to current employees. Second education sucks so the talent sucks. This why CA still thrives despite their crazy taxes and laws. Despite the increased license fees, etc., Nevada is still a to 5 place to open business for laws and taxes. The other advantage we have is Nevada is a hub for shipping. See Walmart, Tesla and the other huge warehousing and manufacturing outside Reno (which does have a decent education base). Do you really think a state can compete when our education is worse than Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and a bunch of other retard states?

Why would the next Tesla or Walmart come to Nevada when there are other zero state income tax jurisdictions with no gross receipts tax?

Tax rebates. Look at the deal Tesla got or Apple. Why do businesses go to California or New York?

The employment base in Nevada is top notch. Reason, they simply move the talent and acquisitions to Reno or Las Vegas. Why is Tesla moving to Reno? So many places are so expensive to live where housing is not affordable. There are many prospective employees willing to relocate. If necessary, businesses pay relocation. The argument that we need higher taxes to improve our educational system does not hold water. If that were the case we would not have doctors, dentists and lawyers (before there was a law school).
