Best read in the last 10 years was Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates by Tom Robbins. Reading it again this weekend in Cancun.

Does no one want to be a judge anymore? Or just no one wants to jump through the hoops to become one. Time for appointments?

This IS an appointment. Still only 1 taker. It’s not a great job and the recent string of good lawyers who were appointed and then ousted in the next election has made it even less attractive for lawyers with a decent practice. Most government lawyers get a raise when taking the bench so it skews that way.

I’m a little surprised ADR Commissioner Ganz didn’t apply. He probably would have been a shoo-in.

I’ve only appeared in front of him once (because I don’t get into dumb discovery fights), but really like the guy. Sharp, level and pragmatic. His talent would be better utilized as a judge, not dealing with the socially inept bozos that carousel-door in and out of the discovery chambers.

Great work by the AOC. “Department 27 is vacant through the resignation of the Honorable Adriana Escobar at the beginning of May of this year.” It is Department 14 but carry on.

I noticed that. Escobar was Dept. 14.

PDs and DAs want to be judges, and it looks like that’s who is getting appointed.

@1:52pm, only DAs get appointed. When was the last time a PD received a judicial appointment in Clark County?

The government will never willingly let someone who might rule for the little guy onto the bench. The only ones there had to fight their way through an election to get it.

Lombardo has made it clear he will only appoint DAs and judicial selection has made it clear they will happily feed him DAs to choose from (the last appointment, they literally ONLY sent him DAs). Why on earth would any sane person decide to put themselves through the process for a foregone result?

The only person who applied for the appointment is dating the right person. Why would anyone waste their time putting their hat in the ring with her? Plus, she’ll run in November and have the support of the entire DA office and Metro.

Agreed. Lombardo’s appointments so far have shown such a clear political agenda, no one who is not a DA is even willing to apply.

At this point, they should just put the seat on the ballot without an appointment, just like Department 17 was in 2022.

Recent non-fiction:

Just finished a book from 1988 Washington Goes to War, by the late NBC news anchor, David Brinkley. A fascinating look at how the war affected the existing rigid social structure in what previously had been a sleepy southern town.

Grounded: The Case for Abolishing the United States Air Force, by Robert M. Farley, which is somewhat self-explanatory, i.e., roll the Air Force back into he Army, but it’s particularly relevant now that the shoe is on the other foot with the recent peeling off of the Space Force from the Air Force for some utterly unfathomable reason. But the book is also a good look into how the institutional imperative works in very large organizations in general.

True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World, by Lisa Birnbach. After more than 3 decades Birnback has penned a sequel to one of my personal sacred religious texts – The Official Preppy Handbook, largely for curmudgeons like me who a hard time adapting to 21st Century abominations like long neckties with dinner jackets.

White Working Class: Overcoming Class Cluelessness in America, by Joan C. Williams. I haven’t read this one yet, but it promises to be a useful read on one of the most uncomfortable topics in America – social class.

Fiction: the usual (and endless) stream of space operas I read myself to sleep with. One of my favorite guilty pleasures (along with Ding Dongs).

“… recent peeling off of the Space Force from the Air Force for some utterly unfathomable reason.”

Very fathomable reason: It reaffirmed how truly amazing that President was. Everyone was talking about how great it was to have a “new” branch of the military. Nobody creates new military branches that well, believe me.

Question for you all, QCD is recorded transferring a property to an llc. ABC, LLC lets say. a mistake was made and ABC, LLC doesn’t exist. Should have been CBA, LLC. I have recorded corrective quit claim deeds in the past to fix things like erroneous legal descriptions for example. But they generally wont accept corrective QCDs that transfer ownership. Is there anyway to fix this without just recording another deed and having to pay transfer taxes? (or using some exemptions.)

Or just form ABC, LLC and correct it by LLC Resolution and transfer it then transfer it to CBA, LLC

But this might create an issue because ABC LLC was not an extant entity at the time of the deed and thus a subsequent ABC LLC was not the same as the ABC the deed was intended to. Smart money is to contact a/the title insurer and see what they require. That’s really all that matters.

Doesn’t actually pose a problem. Deed is valid when executed. Besides, no one will catch it or question it and if title insurer questions or makes it an exception to a policy, no problem, because the entities are controlled by the same party.

Make ABC LLC a wholly owned subsidiary of CBA LLC. Or file an Action to quiet title against yourself so that you can lis pendens that thing until it gets fixed

Hell of a lot easier to form the new LLC and GBS Deed it properly. Much cheaper and quicker as well.
