- One of the HOA scandal players alleges that Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta tipped off Nancy Quon before FBI raids. Saitta denies the allegation. [RJ]
- The Supreme Court permanently disbarred Brian Bloomfield. [RJ]
- Not Vegas, but would it have shocked you to find out someone was working as an attorney for a decade without a license? [Las Vegas Sun]
I guess the Nevada Supreme Court didn't like the fact that Bloomfield was continually misrepresenting to the court in the course of helping out hookers…I guess its true that no good deed goes unpunished *lol*
A paralegal practicing law without a law license, what a concept?
Well, there you have a judge's name finally called out in the HOA scandal–approximately 7 after rumors first started that a judge was involved. Interesting that it took that long for the RJ to get enough sources to print a name.
Weren't there other judges implicated in the HOA? Friends of Nancy Quon? What about the Assistant US Attorney(s) taken off the case for talking about the investigations? Any idea of names there?
I would guess that the person(s) were likely dismissed from the USAO and now are in private practice. That's a pretty narrow list there if you wanted to guess at the name(s).
The rumored leakers in the USAO are still in the USAO.
How did the attorney in Huntingdon County practice for 10 years, attain partnership, act as the bar president, but only represent 30 clients?
Wonder if the Supremes will be as harsh on Saitta as she has been on attorneys?
Saitta = teflon
This story has been making the rounds for years. Yawn.
I don't think she has been anywhere tough enough. It's not rocket science. The rule should be simple and clear… You knowingly steal from your client trust account or knowingly perpetrate a fraud on the court, you lose your license. Those are not oops, I made a mistake issues.
First time I have heard of testimony naming a sitting judge.
The rumor has been circulating for years and has always focused on Saitta being involved. This is neither news or a surprise.
Rumor has now been confirmed by a guilty party. This is actually a BIG deal, and anyone (and attorneys no less) that blow this off as old news are despicable.
9:59 is Saitta wonk. It is a big deal.
It merely confirms what most people with even minimal knowledge about the case already knew, which is that Saitta is involved and that her name is involved. What will come of it? Nothing. It is hearsay that passes through a dead person. Saitta says it never happened. Lisa Kim says it did. Lisa Kim says she got a text message from Nancy Quon but the text message has not been produced. I am not a Saitta wonk; I think she (as well as MANY other prominent people) knew what was going on. But nothing is going to come out of this. Nobody is going to produce text message between Saitta and Quon or Quon and Kim. If that happens, I will eat my words. But for now, this is a dead end.
it is also a big deal because a lot of people have died, presumably to protect someone with a lot to lose.
Or, maybe this will all lead to an actual investigation in which Saitta (or any other judges involved) will be deposed and have to answer questions under oath regarding her involvement in this matter. Instead of the public relying on her statement to the media denying the charge.
This rumor has been circulating for about as long as this case has been around. The only difference is that now it has been testified to by one of the co-conspirators. What is that testimony worth in the absence of any corroboration? I don't know if this happened or didn't happen. How does that make me despicable?
Construction defect was run with the following goals:
1. Maximize settlements for plaintiff attorneys;
2. Minimize the chance that any case would ever go to trial; and
3. Offload most judicial work to highly-compensated special masters.
Saitta was the queen judicial facilitator of the construction defect world. It was her job to keep the skids greased.
Feds not only closed the investigation years ago but successfully fought to prevent any details of the investigation being leaked due to the chance that it would besmirch uncharged parties. There will be no investigation. There will be no questioning of Saitta under oath.
i recall that one of the witnesses on the stand in federal court testified that there were judges in on it … AND THERE WERE NO FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS by the feds such as, oh, I don't know, "which judge?"
Deborah Genato, who pleaded guilty in the multi-million-dollar scheme, told a jury under cross-examination that she learned about Quon’s tip from her boss, Lisa Kim, who ran a company that managed several HOAs linked to the six-year conspiracy that began in 2003.
Bret Whipple, the defense lawyer who questioned Genato on the witness stand, did not press her for a name, and a Justice Department prosecutor later avoided the subject.

From that same article:
“I have never spoken to Nancy Quon about this or any other investigation, civil or criminal, and would certainly deny any allegations that there was such a conversation,” Saitta said.
Clearly doesn't rule out a text message…
