Better Call Saul!

  • Law

For those of you not watching Breaking Bad, one of the more popular recurring characters is a criminal defense lawyer named Saul Goodman played by comic actor Bob Odenkirk. He’s the type of lawyer with the commercials and bus stops ads proclaiming his catchphrase, “Better call Saul!” He is also Walter White’s go to guy for all of his legal needs. The character is so well liked that it was recently announced a prequel series is being made based on Saul.

That leads us to today’s topic:  If you were in a situation where you needed a criminal defense attorney here in Vegas, who would you call?

Depends on what you can afford and what you're charged with. However, for the sake of a short answer I would say If you have the money, Bill Terry. If not, maybe Frank Kocka/Jennifer Bolton.

Wright is done. He was the goto guy 30 years ago. Pitaro is still great, as is Bill Terry. Rich Schonfeld has become a fantastic attorney. Expensive, but he really is very good.

The answer varies on whether its Federal or State.

True. Federal is a different animal entirely. Stan Hunterton for instance is great in Federal Court, but never steps a foot in State Court. If you never are going to go to Trial, some of the old breed are good because they have relationships and "juice," such as John Momot, Bill Terry, Dominic Gentile and David Chesnoff. Just like Wolfson was before he became DA. Pitaro is still one of the best in Fed and State Court. There are lots of great State court criminal attorneys that actually try cases however. Pete Christiansen, Tony Sgro, Josh Tomscheck and Chris Oram. Schonfeld is not as good as those guys, but he's close. Depends on the charge too. For a DUI you would want someone like John Watkins or Chip Siegel, because that's all they do. Robert Draskovich is hands down the best defense attorney in the State for sex crimes, but I wouldn't hire him for a murder or a drug case for instance. So, the answer is, it depends.

Not so sure about Hunterton in federal court. How did Hunterton do in the Wommer trial? Bench trial and a diminished capacity defense? I realize the Defendant may have insisted but ????

If you've ever represented a lawyer, you know how difficult it is. Also, I wonder how Wommer's many incarcerated clients feel about the fact that he testified that he has been diminished since his accident twenty years ago.

I have a related question–I'm sure at least a few of us have dealt with bar hearings or disciplinary hearings–who would you hire to represent you regarding either of those?

Bill Terry has juice you said, implying he has judges in his pocket or or payroll . I agree, but is he a good attorney? Who is gonna be his next judge? Linda Marquis? Is he a good lawyer if he helps destroy childrens lives by endorsing a judge for Family Court that plays ball just to move her up and have more juice. Well that's not gonna happen. Anyone that hurts children is gonna find out the boys don't like child abusers or those who help child abusers for a payday. Other relationships are game on but not with anyone who would hurt a child or be negligent with their well being. Marquis I have a feeling has made grave mistakes that are on court video, and like 911 calls can be purchased and aired to the public. Known of Terry since a child, thought he was a bad ass recommended him cause my people did, my mentors did. But now cause he endorses judge Linda Marquis, I have no respect and tell people not to use him. I hate child abusers. Heard he almost needed to hire an attorney? This true? What for (like I don't know) ?

Bar hearings and you say Terry! It's a good thing Linda Marquis knows him so well. If she runs again there are organizations planning to run footage of her in court . She blatantly let's everyone on courtroom know she's doing what plaintiff says by asking him what to do and refusing to give continuance because key evidence ( police reports) were held up because plaintiff is related to several cops and defendant had to call Metro internal affairs to get them and didn't receive them till day before court (had been trying to get them for 6 weeks). Marquis refuses to admit them into evidence, then defendant asks for a continuance to be able to admit them she refuses but then asks to look at them ( this is where she messed up) she looks at them and sees her client the plaintiff filed a false court document and has committed perjury, judge Linda Marquis then says absolutely no continuance. There is no justice for anyone who doesn't have a lawyer and whoever's lawyer has the most juice wins, doesn't matter who the better parent is, if they are giving the child to a child abuser nothing matters except who has more juice . Linda Marquis could care less what happens to the child, and this is evident when defendant asks about him not following court orders of previous judge ( over 70 times) but regarding the matter of child not being taken to psychiatrist after threatening suicide ( child was 5yrs old at time of threat!) as ordered by judge and returned to mother , he withheld child an additional 4 months . She tells defendant he didn't have to do anything judge ordered because she said so and no contempt charges ould therefore be filled, he was not in contempt of court because he didn't have to do anything previous judge ordered! Sound insane ?crazy ? Don't believe it? Wait till video is aired even more unbelievable in color on you high definition jumbo flat screen! If your son or daughter wanted to commit suicide wouldn't you want to get them help? If you were a judge that cared ( key word cared) would my you want to get this child dome help? What harm could a psychiatrist do? Oh yes , find out the truth, what's going on! but who would that cause harm? The child abuser! And so who was it that didn't want the child going to a psychiatrist? Oh yes, the father who perturbed himself and the judge who denied the proof of perjury and asked the father if his son needed a psychiatrist ( like she was asking him what he wanted her to say! And the father is now an expert witness regarding psychology! Only in Marquis's courtroom!)What harm could it do? The truth could be discovered and they knew it! After all judge Marquis goes to a psychiatrist for help and it is rumored she goes 3 times a week! But she doesn't think a child needs to go after threatening suicide! MORE LIKE SHE DOESN'T CARE! More like she already discussed criminal, and did what she agreed to do. And there is a long long long list of more cases, where she violates people's rights, ignores evidence or dismisses it and ignore the US Constitution, and does it on camera like you can't touch me the law doesn't as pply to Me, and I can do whatever, fuck you, you don't have any money or you would have a lawyer , so no chance of you bringing me on charges or before Supreme court, and even then I am one of them and you are not! Marquis is the worst kind of criminal. She is masquerading as a defender of justice that protects citizens from criminals, but who protects us from her? Honorable? Bull shit!!!! There is nothing honorable about her. It's a good thing she knows Terry, but will he take a case with do much evidence and does he have enough juice? What if this case gets too much publicity and ends his juicing days forever?

These two rants read like the manic ramblings of "he who shall not be named".
